Apparently John Sullivan was the main scriptwriter for the Die hard series but insisted he went uncredited.

Was watching Die Hard there and noticed some plot holes.

1. McClane turns his back on Bill Clay after giving him an empty gun but Clay could have had a gun hidden on him or hit him over the head with some inanimate object.  Bad decision making there.

2. At the end of the film McClane gives up his gun as Hans has his woman.  However he has apparently taped a gun to his back.  His back was soaking wet from blood and sweat. The tape wouldn't stick to his back in reality.  He would have looked a right gobsh*te acting all cocky only for the tape to fail and the gun to fall to the ground as he was cracking jokes.

On a more serious note it just goes to show what women are like in real life.  He goes through hell to save her life, not just once but twice in Die Hard 1 and 2 and she still gives him sh*t in Die Hard 3 and leaves his ass.  Ungrateful bitch.

Right I'll try to answer logically

1. He already knows that Bill Clay is Hans when he gives him the gun, If he had a gun already why would he have not shot at him already. (it could be a case that John seen Hans gun before he dropped down, the main reason he doesn't allow to go get it.

How does he know he was Hans?

The screenwriter noted two things about it

(i) He notices Hans watch, all the terrorists are wearing the same watch. This is alluded to in a scene which was deleted and a part which was edited out. When John is talking to Al about them he says judging by their clothing labels he pauses and then says cigarettes this was edited the original line after the pause he says  "They all have the same watch"

 Also

(ii)Hans doesn't question the brand of cigarette given to him which leads to John's clarification, in fact unless Bill Clay was a frequent European smoker he would have known the difference between smoking a Euro vs an American.

2.  He uses gaffer tape, It would be strong enough to stick to his back. my only issue with this is how he done it is close to his middles back at his shoulders it would be quite difficult.

3. In terms of Holly leaving him, as referenced in the third movie he is a heavy drinker and obviously suffered from Post Traumatic Stress due to the last two movies. So i'd assume the whole leaving him was due to that.

No no no no no. Cant be havin that.

Why nit juat kill Hans? As I say why dis he turn his back on him? He could have hit him over the head withba chair.

It was chriatmas wrapping tape. Not industrial enough to stick a geavy wet gun against wet skin.

Surely having a breakdown is understandavle given how he nearly died twice saving the woman including fighting on the wing of a plane. Yer wan Holly should have been shot. The bitch.

Everything is bigger and stronger in America, cars, meal portions ,Christmas presents, wrapping tape etc,was probably made industrial strength to hold huge presents for a fat yank kid.

He was probably on the booze flat out and not able to ride her,she had enough and jumped ship or cock.

He didn't fully know it was Hans until he seen the watch and the reaction to cigarette.
McClane has a sub machine gun so I'd imagine he hold the upper hand in terms of the two.

If you had a what you believed to be a loaded weapon why would you choose a gun over it.

The more obvious plot hole is John leaves what appears to be a pretty obvious blood trail after the "Shoot the Glass" incident why not go after him and just shoot him.

It is clearly industry gaffer tape not wrapping tape it would be strong enough.

Biggest plot hole, in Die Hard (1) and other high rise building stories.
Jumping out/through a window when you know you are on the 82nd floor but not knowing that there is a balcony/ledge or something there to break your fall but hey presto ......

No! Stop getting Die Hard wrong!

It is christmas wrapping tape with christmas trees on it. A flimsy product not capable of what is shown in the film.

The tape is the least of your worries.

The biggest plot hole is the fact that Karl comes back to life after being hanged for the whole last part of the movie.

The only way this makes sense is as some kind of religious metaphor. Karl looks like some kind of pagan god, but in the end is done in by the forces of Christianity, McClane the Irish Catholic and Al the African-American Baptist.

And if you don't think it has to do with religion. These movies have religion everywhere. They're set at Christmas, in the second the baddies set up their base in a church, and in the third McClane is helped by a man he thinks is called Jesus, but is really Zeus!

And what has more plot holes than religion?

More plot holes in this film:

McClane takes out a machine gun to shoot Captain Lorenzo to prove to him they lads were firing blanks.  About 10 cops took out their guns yet nobody shot him.

Amazing how Richard Thornburg is on the same flight as Holly McClane.  I imagine the odds of that happening are  low.

When McClane fights the two lads ont he wing of the plane he gets kneed in the face yet doesnt get knocked out or stay down.

When McClane opens the fuel line how come yer man doesnt see the petrol guzzling out nor the pilot?

Why didn't they send a few muppets out to get McClane on the wing as opposed to the 2 big boys?

Shock? Also Airport police are idiots

But entirely plausible.

On Film 4 now.  Plot hole:  When McClane is locked in the cockpit and the lads are chucking grenades in the window, there are 9 of them but they all land at his feet and dont explode for ages.  He easily would have had time to pick them up and throw them back out the window at the lads and blow their sorry ass to death but instead he decides to strap himself into an ejector seat which takes way more time.

Also in Die Hard 2 the Windsor plane that crashed said " we are flying on fumes and need to land " the bad dude resets the runway for 200 meters below what it should do the plane drops and crashes in burst into a huge fire ball . I take it there were more than fumes in the tank .
