Riera pondering move to Moscow

Unsettled Liverpool winger Albert Riera has admitted a transfer to the Russian Premier League is an attractive option for him.

Riera has been frozen out at Anfield after last week's astonishing attack on manager Rafa Benitez in the Spanish media, in which he referred to Liverpool as 'a sinking ship'.

And the Spain international may take advantage of Russia's extended transfer window, which runs until April 8, to depart to Spartak Moscow on loan.

"Russia presents a very interesting option for me," Riera is quoted as saying in Russian newspaper Sport Express.

"For one, it's the only prestigious league in Europe where the transfer window is open.

"And secondly, if I play there regularly, I may be able to earn my ticket to the World Cup in South Africa."

Riera appears hopeful a deal can be concluded in the near future.

"I hope that the question of my transfer will be resolved by this week," he stated.

Wasn't Kuyt a striker when he was at Feynoord? I seem to remember Spurs choosing between him and Berbatov for a striker and they opted for Berbatov.

Riera's Russia move falls through

Albert Riera has performed a dramatic U-turn and hailed Liverpool as "one of the best clubs in the world" - after his move to Russia collapsed

Riera was briefly suspended last month for his outburst, in which he also criticised manager Rafael Benitez for failing to communicate with his players.

An angry Benitez immediately sanctioned a loan move to Russia - whose transfer window is currently open until next week - and froze Riera out of his first-team plans.

However, the escape route to Spartak Moscow appears to have been closed off after the two parties failed to agree personal terms.

And Riera has tried to repair the damage done by his comments on the eve of the important Europa League last-16 second leg against Lille last month.

"Negotiations with Spartak Moscow are stalled...my intention is to decide my future in the summer," he told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"I want to continue my career at Liverpool because it is one of the best clubs in the world.

"The feeling is spectacular, we have a great stadium and I feel very good at Liverpool.

"I speak with Fernando Torres and (Jose) Reina and agree on the greatness of Liverpool."

Such apparent contrition is unlikely to convince Benitez to welcome the Spain winger back into the fold.

The Reds boss has not forgiven Riera, worried about his World Cup chances, for so publicly trying to manufacture a move at a crucial time of the season by misrepresenting his relationship with him.

Dawg will be warming the reserves bench instead of getting pimped by Moscow.
