Former Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers manager Roddy Collins has been linked with a return to League of Ireland dug-outs as Kilkenny City boss.
Collins has been out of the managerial game since his acrimonious departure from Rovers on the eve of the Hoops’ relegation play-off against Dublin City two years ago.
The outspoken Dubliner, who has also managed Dublin City and Carlisle United in his career, has never been far from the spotlight, with media work including television punditry with RTE and radio analysis on Newstalk.
And he could once more be unleashed on the Irish soccer public having been linked with the manager’s position at perennial First Division strugglers Kilkenny.
Reports suggest that Collins is the preferred candidate to take over at Buckley Park with a new consortium bidding to take control of the south Leinster club.
Kilkenny have finished bottom of the entire eircom League in four of the past six seasons, including for the last two years, while the same period saw significant upheaval in the managerial position.
The 2007 campaign alone saw three managers take the reins, with Brendan Rea starting the season in charge before Tommy Gaynor’s 10-week spell in charge, while club under-21 chief Noel Byrne ended the season as caretaker manager.
