Was the President himself there? And more importantly, did he get to use the bathroom facilities without his Aide-de-Camp holding a torch to point out the shítter?

El Presidente is a legend.
http://www.the42.ie/michael-d-higgins-loi-1963312-Feb2015/?utm_source=shortlink

Best bit of it is:

“Maybe some clubs are better organised than others,” he continues. “I have kind of half admired Sligo Rovers for that because when you go to he Showgrounds and at half time you see all these confections arriving and you know that they have about 20 different sources of funding… including a bakery.

“That’s the future. You make yourself very vulnerable if you just have a single sponsor or two. The wider the spread in the sponsorship, the stronger you are.”

Fair dues to Michael D. He`s the only president we`ve ever had to genuinely follow the LOI.

Can you imagine De Valera lowering himself by visiting Richmond Pk? Mind you, I`ve often felt I`ve lowered myself by visiting that kip myself Big smile

Dev chose not to go to see his beloved rugby as the klu klux Gah would get at him. He famously dropped a cricket bat and ran in trinity when the press showed up

Dev was also at the Poland game in 1938 but wasn't a member of the gah so they couldn't suspend him.  You are correct about him not attending any rugby games for decades which must have been tough for him.
