Oasis and the pogues were my 2 favourite bands growing up.
First saw the pogues live in the late 90s, and just loved going to see them, and Shane and the popes regularly afterwards (he'd some good songs with the popes too). An absolute legend and one of the most talented song writers ever

His sister Siobhan gave a lovely eulogy. His wifeβs eulogy went on and on and on.

He didn't really say anything wrong... maybe the timing could have been better. Fanning is a music journalist so he knows more than most

I think itβs comical at this stage. It was a valid opinion. I suppose he is sick of all of the sycophantic stuff that comes out when someone dies. No harm in it really.

Looking for attention. Absolute twat.
Some amount of rage with G doing a reading. Absolutely beautiful to see. I recorded the funeral but since it ran over - only caught a bit of it. Disaster. |

would have been easier for him to brush that off and say it's a conversation for another day. He just loves the publicity

Fanning is an enormous twat.
Firstly. He misquotes Springsteen in saying he called Shane the greatest or most prolific writer of all time. Springsteen said that Shane's songs would be sung a hundred years from now, which I don't think even his most ardent critic would deny. Secondly, Shane was a very much loved Irishman, whose funeral was yesterday. Just like his swipe at Christy, it was crass, tactless and Ill timed. I'll tell you who won't be remembered in a hundred years time, and it ain't Shane.

Itβs all on YouTube. Absolutely brilliant send off for Shane. Nick Caveβs Rainy Night in Soho was incredible as were all the performances. Fair play to Glen Hansard for putting all the music together.
