I dont know much about Key but apparently he has only started 3 games out of 11 at RB this season, 1 at LB, 4 at LWB and 4 as a RM, so I have no idea what his best position is. The Beeb article suggests his fav position is Right Wing Back.

He's predominantly a right wing back or an attack minded right full. Can play on the left also if needed. Has been keeping Harrison Ashby (who Newcastle spent a few million on) out of the team at Swansea so far this season. I wouldn't be calling him up right away or anything (unless we had a few injuries) but I do like the look of him as a prospect. Looks to have potentially more about him going forward than Danny McNamara, for instance, and is a year younger. And McNamara himself wouldn't be too far off the squad.

Fair enough, transfermarkt also list the majority of his appearances in L1 last year (24) as a Right Midfielder. Definitely could be useful in the future, but perhaps McNamara (who I'm not a huge fan of) is more of an out and out full back.

Never give up on your dream of an Anglo 11.

Cirkin was born in Dublin to Latvian parents, how is that "Anglo"?

Not that it matters in the slightest as far as I'm concerned, but he did leave Dublin for London at age 3 and has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U20 level, so thats a bit "Anglo" tbf.

If playing underage footba for England automatically makes you "Anglo", why are so many guys who play for Ireland denied their Irishness?

I havent denied anybody their Irishness, the opposite in fact. If Cirkin wants to come on board, I have absolutely no issue with that, but he has no Irish parents and spent 3 years that he probably cant even remember over here, so I'm guessing he likely feels a bit more "anglo" than "hiberno"

Cirkin is the exactsame situation as Michael Obafemi. It's not an issue. He was born here, he's Irish!

Tyrone man and former Cookstown Fr Rocks GAA player Terry Devlin made his first start and scored his first goal for Portsmouth today. Would be brilliant to see him become the first man from the county to represent his country

Same club as the great Owen Mulligan. Surely Mugsy can talk sense into him.

He will be in their next senior squad though, surely.

Stephen Kenny spending a lot of time in the North East of England recently to convince Dennis Cirkin to commit to Ireland.

Devlin is being fast tracked by NI and can expect his first of many senior caps soon if he sticks with them. Cirkin would be a great long term acquisition for Ireland if he can be persuaded.

We should be after Cirkin if he is at all interested. Good player in a position we are very weak at.

My understanding is he wants a commitment to be first choice left back / left wing back. Something that Kenny is reluctant to guarantee and won't be his choice after the next window.

Cirkin is happy to bide his time without that commitment. He has been on standby for the England Under 21's recently and has Latvia chasing him aggressively also.

You have to admire Kenny's commitment to improve the player pool moving forward knowing that he won't be there. Lots of conversations like this taking place throughout the EFL, as shown with the McAteer pursuit going completely under the radar. Don't be surprised to see more of this soon. Louie Barry one to watch in this regard in particular.

Former underage cap Stephen McMullan is on the bench for NI tonight. Illustrates the gap pretty well, he's only got 2 appearances for Fleetwood - he'd probably be 2nd choice in our U-19 team behind Andrew Wogan.
