That call up was just Southgate being cynical by keeping Redmond interested but never having any intention of using him. It is enough to keep Redmond away from us and lead him to think that maybe one day he might get that chance for England again... when in reality he will never be capped again.

Actual y this could be a backfire. He still has an irish mother and he is not a fool. Of course he was used and discarded.

I know this sounds completely ridiculous, but maybe Redmond is a player good enough to be on the fringes of the England squad and not in it!

Did you see the video of Redmond being delighted at the callup with Ward Prowse? He wants to play for England which is fair enough and he might get a few caps, playing well the tail end of this year. Let him off and hopefully he does.

Redmond is English.

The question should be, does he also see himself as Irish?

I very much doubt that Southgate is sitting at home thinking if he calls up his sixth choice winger, or whatever he is, it will stop him from switching to Ireland. It's lunacy, even for here!

The question should be.. have we not learned anything from Noble?. Redmond may have Irish blood but he views himself as English and that’s who he wants to play for. The guy is certainly good enough for them but even if he never gets another cap I think give the guy deserves a lot of respect for still retaining that ambition to play for his country.

Redmond wouldnt Play for ANGETERRE he is too bald and looks like 40. He is not the image of a 3 lions player. Is a waste of talent he could shine in green with Shane Long.

So Southgate spends his time in between internationals counting hair follicles? With Rice's hairline he will be a permanent fixture for them..
