Obviously not. Robbie Keane was an absolutely exceptional talent who at 18 was probably already better than any other striker to ever play senior football for Ireland. So he, like say Rooney for England, was best-suited to the senior team. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Ryan Nolan is good enough for the senior team at present (though hopefully it won't be too long before he is).

Kyle Vassell of Rotherham has been called up by NI, I had no idea he was eligible for us.

We could have badly done with a striker that can't score too.

Definitely not better than anything we have already. Long, Robinson, Maguire, Hogan, O'Brien, McGoldrick are all far better options.

Quick! Get him into a squad and get him tied down by giving him competitive game time. We've never heard of him, he isn't playing great football, he may be entirely undeserving, and it will annoy some of our most loyal servants. But we would be following Ryan Giggs' genius lead. Woo hoo. Come on Wales.

I'd never previously heard of Vassell, let alone his eligibility. A bit surprised that O'Shea and others on here were similarly in the dark.
He's there just about on merit despite no goals so far this term (playing as a winger). There are four other guys in our squad playing in EL1, Lafferty has thrown another (possibly final) no-show and Washington misses out (I think as his kid is unwell).

According to this article: https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/358735/Family-man-Stephen-Ireland-is-Aston-Villa-s-father-figure he was a father at 18, so seeing as he is 32 he kid must be 14ish. "Ireland was a father at 18 years old and split with the mother, who went back to Ireland, when their second baby was eight months old." So it seems the mother is also Irish.
