It hardly matters exactly who is behind it. ie. Parry or Liverpool and United

It's an obvious disaster capitalist power grab whatever it is

Tell "the little people" "there is no alternative", buy them off for long term dictatorship by the powerful

The "bigger picture" (sorry) is that it's a blatant power grab by two clubs, possibly as a precursor to the next move to a (breakaway) European Super League.

Or possibly, if MU and LFC weren't being given enough say in any ESL, to head it off, on the basis that any ESL would be seriously devalued without any PL clubs involved.

My guess would be the former, on the basis that they would want up all of "The Big Six" clubs included, in a total of, say, 20.

But if it's the latter, with it's global reach and financial clout, the PL could seriously hope to challenge even the best of the continent, esp since they are suffering far more from the present crisis than the PL is. (Both Real and Barca are skint right now, for instance.)

Either way, Rick Parry is an obvious candidate to push through their plans, which is why he is the biggest "cheerleader" for this outside of the 2 clubs themselves. (Also explains why the other PL clubs have called for him to be sacked from his present position, even though the EFL isn't actually any of their business.)

The "big six" as they are called were fine (granted it was once a Big 2, or Big 3, or Big 4) when teams would come up from the Championship (Div 1) and play out their season in the PL before returning to the lower league. Even the likes of Nottingham Forest in 1995 and Ipswich in 2001 were fine, because they quickly returned to where they came from.

Its not a major surprise. Leicester City upset the applecart, and in the meantime we have seen Wolverhampton Wanderers establish themselves as a Top 7 side, Newcastle nearly be taken over in a manner that would deepen their pockets significantly, and Leeds United arrive with their top class manager, and the ability to attract good players. And there are teams like Brentford knocking on the door with an infrastructure and a model. Its the big difference to teams like Fulham, who won't make a huge difference in the PL this year, or the apparently special status offered to teams like West Ham, Everton (we'll see at the end of the season) and Southampton who won't break the Champions League, and their form is known.

I don't think there will ever be a ESL, simply because there will be winners and losers, and unless it is totally a cash grab, coming 15th in the ESL won't do much for Chelsea in terms of attracting players if they are just going to be hammered by Real and Juventus each week. And there is too much within the domestic game to forfeit for the allure of something like an ESL. But, it doesn't surprise me much that the teams who would be most negatived by this would be promoted teams.

There will never be a 'ESL' because there's no need for an 'ESL'. They have one by proxy and the threat of an 'ESL' is enough to give the bigger clubs organisations what they want. What is unfortunate is that UEFA care as much about the money as these organisations, and as little about the game in general, meaning they will never have the balls to do the decent thing and tell them to f**k off.
I have always envisaged any super-de-duper competition to be done in a manner similar to the NFL anyway, rather than a traditional league.
Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

The EFL clubs have a bailout worth 250mn quid to them on the table, plus future income from EPL tv contracts. They now have to decide what is more important to them. Having their traditions, or having the cash to keep their neck above the water. They have no crowds for the rest of this season, so if they're looking for another way to raise income, well they have a few weeks to find it.

For the EPL clubs, there are many positives on offer also. They can scrap the League Cup that none of them want, no Charity Shield game that none of them want, and less league games, meaning a less crowded calendar. While the top 6 have more power to push changes through that best suit them.

It's a very detailed set of proposals, and it probably needs a few more tweaks. Many people in the game want the game to change. But as usual when change is proposed, opposition is instant and the fight to keep the status quo begins. Look how difficult it is for some fans to accept VAR and the widespread opposition to it, even though it is permanent, and absolutely essential when an entire season and millions of revenue is dependent on the correct decision made.

That is an absolutely disgraceful tackle from Pickford. Bit of a joke that he gets away with it just because Van Dijk was offside.

Completely reckless tackle.

Good start to the game. Adrian should have done better with Keane's header IMO.

It's hard to believe after 5 games Liverpool's goal difference after games is 0. Total freak result against Villa.
