I presume "duck tape" (correct: duct tape) has been on here already.

There is a brand called Duck Tape though.  Is Sellotape the official name for cellotape or what? Or is it called sticky tape?

It is actually the other way around. It was originally called 'duck' tape as it was made  using cloth made from duck cotton. Either is now acceptable but I believe 'duck tape' is a registered brand.

I once had a teacher who pronounced military coup as 'coop'.  When I corrected her on the pronunciation she insisted she was right as it was spelled C-O-U-P.Confused

Bless.

Farmers in the north would talk of couping a tractor, as in having it overturn.

I can't even think of another word using the same -oup sound. It's not like soup or coop, it's like the vowel sound in gout.

The P is definitely pronounced there.
