I thought so but after googling him i found out he's from the staunchely unionist town of Ballyclare. 

There are some non-catholics called Paddy, Wallace and Johns for example. 
I haven't a clue what background he's from though this lad, just guessing

Even if he is a Protestant that doesn't guarantee he wouldn't consider himself Irish and vice versa for Catholic...
