I am nota fan of awards as IMO they are a load of wank. However, it is always nice to see people who got f**ked over in the past or who are largely ignored get some sort of recognition. Anyway, my winners are in red.

I would agree with all those picks bar the Best Actress as I haven't seen some of those films to make a decision.
One thing for sure is Vern needs to get the Oscar |

If they gave me the nominations and asked me to pick the winners I would be tempted to give Whiplash best picture and Linklater director. I couldn't find many faults in either but Whiplash just edged it for me (I don't expect it will win)
Apart from that I would go Cumberbatch best male but couldn't call the Best Actresses as haven't seen enough of them. JK Simmons is a lock and deservedly so, it would've been made an interesting category had Norton a bigger role in Birdman because he was brilliant |

I have yet to see Foxcatcher but is it not strange that it would get nominations for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor yet not for Best Picture??
Selma the biggest loser by all accounts with those nominations. Edit; Also no nomination for The Lego Movie

Great to see two Irish filmw, Songs of the Sea, getting a nod in the Animation category and Boogaloo in the live short.

Thought Foxcatcher was very over-rated. They were going for creepy and uncomfortable but forgot to make it entertaining at all. Acting was good though - thought Channing Tatum deserved best supporting actor nod ahead of Mark Ruffalo too.
Haven't seen some of the films but would love to see Wes Anderson win for Grand Budapest Hotel. Also thought Rosamund Pike was sensational in Gone Girl.

Have movie stars become less well known or do the oscars go for more obscure films as a rule now?
