They took the lead after half an hour only for Stapleton to equalise two minutes later. A draw looked the most likely outcome until McGrath volleyed home a late winner. It kept the campaign alive for the visit of Bulgaria next month.

On a grey, wet late summer afternoon, two goals in half an hour won our fourth game in a row, and set up nicely the visit of Spain next month, as Lithuania's first UEFA campaign came to an end. With the game over as a contest, Jack asked the players to ease up in the second half, and not pick up any bookings ahead of the Spain game. In theory, it was a smart move, in practice, it could have been better.
