yeah I couldn't quite believe it that this whole mess was somehow the shinners faults that HMG the Conservative and unionist party facilitated it - he looked like he was going to combust ( maybe a hangover for cash for ash)

She was argumentative for the sake of it last night, she even went against what her own parties leaders had said earlier in the day. And then retorted “I’m allowed my opinion Matt”

In the same Pat Kenny interview he thought it incredulous that his county (the UK) could be partitioned against the wishes of the majority. I sh*t you not.

The Belfast Telegraph are reporting that Paul Givan has been asked to resign by the DUP. No source given though.

A by election will be called if Jeffrey Donaldson wins. The DUP vote and UUP will split. The Alliance will probably win. SF and the SDLP would be wise not to run a candidate.

Looks to be true. The BBC are reporting it.

It's a Unionist constituency. SF and SDLP at most would get a combined 20% of the vote. If they both sit out and let their voters vote for the Alliance party then the unionist vote may split.

Very good. Would there be a genuine chance of them losing the seat?

Ya, they have an ancient electoral system where you don't need a majority of votes to get elected. If 30% vote for DUP, 30% vote for UUP and 40% vote Alliance then the 60% Unionist vote is split and the Alliance win.

Not for Westminster elections. It's first past the post. Alliance were from memory around 6,000 behind Donaldson last time but difficult to know who would run for the DUP if he vacated his seat and is co-opted to the Assembly, where most of the party MLAs do not want him. There are no safe seats for the DUP at the moment, they are in a terminal mess of their own making. What can one say except....hahahahahahaha.

Ya, that's what I was on about. A combined unionist vote could be 60% and they'd still lose. No hope of a single unionist candidate either.

good summary of the mess they are and timeline of the weeks developments
What happens if when next MLA elections happen the unionist vote is split further and there is no clear majority unionist party? If the DUP don’t come to the table and agree to form am assembly can the next in line Unionist party take up the 2nd minister office (I’m assuming a SF majority next time around)?
