what a headbanger. to show how little league she is, she is using Belfast as location so that people take some notice rather than from the constituency where she is an elected official

The Newsletter newspaper must be doing an in depth focus on how much public money is spent on the Irish Language. This week the focus was on Education and Irish Medium Education. The local government organisation I work for have just received an FoI request from them asking how much we spend annually on Irish Language provision ( I would expect this to be £0 )

I assume even a normal right-wing tory government would still be more open to bringing in an Irish Language Act through direct rule than the 'no to everything' DUP in a power sharing executive?

Despite the electoral pact, probably yes. It would absolutely hilarious. Hard line unionists calling for direct rule and a Tory Government implementing UK wide policies on native languages and same sex marriage. See how they like being as 'Equally British' as GB

The tories power is so precarious that eventually even the DUP won't be able to hold them up so she might decide to give them the two fingers for all their pissing about!

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

EU draft text leaked tonight, looks like the EU will basically look to keep the North in the customs union and certain single market areas will see full alignment. This of course is in the absence of a full alignment agreement between the EU and Uk. Queue of course the DUP being apoplectic with rage, they are going to go full Willie Frazer tomorrow when this goes through. Nationalism and pragmatic unionists will be cock a hoop however. It will be some laugh tomorrow.

Peter Foster is the Europe Editor of the Daily Telegraph. Parsing This could not have come at a more sensitive moment. Tomorrow the EU will publish highly contentions draft of EU withdrawal treaty that will force the Irish border issue. (EXC deets to come) /2 Reminder. The December deal set out three ways for UK to make good in commitment to avoid a hard border in Northern Ireland. A. EU-UK relationship deal B. Technology and devolution C. “Full alignment” as necessary to protect all island economy. /3 The Boris letter seems to be a plea that B can work, even if it means a bit more checking than now. EU already dismissed this as “Narnia option”. This leak will expose Boris and Brexiteers - who might trade Good Friday Ag for Brexit - to fury. /4 It will also throw spotlight back on Option C, which as we reported this AM, will basically leave NI as exclave of the EU if it’s defined as the EU suggests.
That would leave Dublin effectively representing part of U.K. at EU Council. That’s nuts. /5 <<< The DUP
Option C as defined in Tom’s text is “totally unacceptable” per UK source.
My sources say there will be Five Chapters in the Protocol:
- rights of individuals
- movement of people/CTA
- common regulatory area, for goods
- institutional provisions
- general provisions
/6
The scope of acquis covered is massive: VAT, fisheries, agriculture, electricity markets, SPS (animal/Vet standard), environment, state aid etc etc Per source: “it looks like the EU is trying to seize part of U.K.”. /7 So why the leak? My take?
Well, if Option B is for the birds and Option C is a land grab, that brings us to A. The future relationship.
...and the Customs Union. /8 The EU, per Per EU source.
“The Customs Union doesn’t solve everything, but without it, you can’t solve anything.”
If U.K. is member of CU then devolution and SPS alignment etc all start to look much less like unicorns.

British Conservative on Newsnight saying that the EU draft tomorrow is not what was agreed in December. He says it was a fudge and that the British government will not put a hard border on the island but it will be the EU who will be doing it. What a bunch of duplicious bastards. I am so glad the Irish government have the EU in their corner as the world is now seeing how difficult they are to deal with but the EU are in a the position Britain was always in with us- dictating most of the terms. Maybe we should threaten an immediate and terrible war if the British dont sign up to the draft tommorrow?

It's unreal. Dear leader Arlene, Deputy Dodds and Wee Jeffrey are in some rage today. They are mad. All signed up to in December but they are behaving like this is the first they have heard of it. It undermines the constitutional position and would be economically catastrophic.

I think barnier is going above and beyond to accommodate NI and their complete lack of executive being in place by flying to Belfast to meet foghorn foster and michelle o'neill, and to actually try to sit down and discuss the issue at hand. poor chap is going to have nightmares for years about the three bobbling heads of foster, dodds and Wilson just shouting "no, No, NO" louder and louder

What is the likely outcome then do you think?
May has said today that no British PM could ever accept this EU proposal
