I did this a few years back and im flying it now. Speak it all the time with my daughter at home and have her down for the local Irish school now too. Its amazing how much of it comes back to you - go for it Clap

Can be the opposite too. Salt contains sodium chrloride which contains a chemical which can boost metabolism which means shifting weight faster. Has alot of downside too such as artery clots if you eat too much

Salt is definitely not as bad for health as it was made out to be, similar to saturated fat. Types of sea salts can help fight against heart disease. Table salts are to be avoided because they basically have a non-existent mineral profile, but sea salts contain essential minerals that your body doesn't produce on its own, so they can be beneficial to add to your diet.

My only resolution this year is financial. Hadn't been in a position to save over the last couple of years, so want to make a big effort at that this year.

Any tips for this?

Go through your expenditures. Check your monthly subscriptions. Games console, Netflix, Pornhub, whatever. Check if you're actually getting value for money out of them.

Yeah totally agree, what's the point in trying to get through one of the most miserable times of yea year without something that's enjoyable. Give it up in June or something when you can do something outdoors to replace it.

With regards wine V lager, alcohol is made of sugar, which provides most of the calories in your drink of choice, so if you break it down you'll get your answer
13% (content) of 750ml wine bottle = 98ml of alcohol
4.2% (content) of 568ml pint = 24ml of alcohol

So half a bottle of wine is the same amount of sugar as 2 pints of lager. All are about 210/220 calories.

Obviously if you find lower percentage wine, or smaller wine glasses, there's less.

I think I gave up sugar in my tea for lent, so that was f**king years ago. Cold Turkey all the way Big smile . I do recall that I quickly went from hating the taste of sugar in a cup of tea soo after

My one resolution (as I don't normally waste my time with them) is no sugar in my coffee as I now drink 1-2 cups of it a day, it's only a small amount but it still annoys me that I put it in.

Write down everything you spend over a couple of months.
You’ll Be shocked how much you spend on crap.

Set up a DD each month into a savings account after pay date so it’s gone before you can spend it.

And of course - IPTV > BT + Sky

I went from my account being zero every payday(im paid weekly), and having zero savings in January 2018 to getting mortgage approved/buying a house in December 2018,  i was always really bad with money, literally living week to week, and i was on a decent-ish wage. My new years resolution last year was to be financially stable, so if i can do it any one can do it. One huge tip is when you get paid make every euro do something, (kinda like envelope budgeting) even if its just putting a fiver a week away to tax your car in a few months. What helped me was putting it into savings accounts i couldn't get to access to straight away, so different savings for different things, (things like Ireland matches, savings, New runners, Car maintenance etc etc). Worked for me, if ya need amy more tips or whatever, dont be afraid to ask, obviously i made other changes too

I'm doing similar. Kept track of my general day-to-day expenditure over the course of a month to see what I was spending it on. When I looked at it, I was spending way more on a daily basis (coffees in garages, food on the go, etc) than I should have been. I find being able to tap your card a disaster because (as stupid as this sounds) as I don't take notice of how many times I'd use it in a day and then get a shock when my account balance is lower than I thought.

What I do now is on every pay day, take out a set amount for each type of general expenditure I'll have that month (petrol, food for the week, money for pints at the weekend, etc) and keep the cash on hand. I find that it's too easy to use your card for things so it's easier to be more wasteful as opposed to having to part with cash.

Another gimmicky method I seen in the paper before was on each day of the week, to put the corresponding amount of euro away. So €1 for Monday, €2 for Tuesday, and so on. That's €28 per week.

Over the year, that's just under €1500. Could be handy for Christmas or a family holiday.

Is there anything to back that up regarding sea salt and heart disease .Genuinely interested.

That's one of the articles from the above site. Suggests that the minerals contained in sea salt (calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium) play a part in reducing blood pressure.

Never really bothered too much , but as you get older it gets hard to move the fat .
Now never have been to a gym in my life and I don't think I ever will , my job is not what you would call a desk job and find myself quite busy .
I always put on a kilo in the winter and lose it in the summer , now the wife thinks I need to lose 10 kg so I have decided to cut a leg off that should do it . Big smile

Putting money away for unexpected things helps too, just a savings account for car trouble, doctor visits etc really helps. The first mention of a stag, I just put money away now. It was always these kinda things that seemed to catch me out before when I was trying to save, there was always something unexpected to eat into your money
