Moyes calls for Africans solution

Wednesday, 30 January 2008 08:15

Everton manager David Moyes believes the Barclays Premier League should look at closing down during the African Nations Cup.

Fourth-placed Everton are decimated by suspension, injuries and international absences for tonight's visit of Tottenham to Goodison Park.

Three Blues players, Joseph Yobo, Stephen Pienaar and Ayegbeni Yakubu are in Ghana for the African tournament, and their absence is felt more keenly due to suspensions for Tim Cahill and Tony Hibbert.

Talk of FIFA moving other global tournaments in line with the European summer has rumbled on for a decade but Moyes - who fell foul of attempting to keep Pienaar for an extra game before his departure - has offered an alternative solution given the increasing number of African players in the English top-flight.

'You cannot win. But maybe now we have to consider if we close the Premier League season down during the African Nations Cup,'

what nonsense?

Tournament should be banned, it's rubbish. I've tuned into a couple of the games and it's pure pants.
We'll never die, we'll never die, we'll keep the Green Flag flying high......Shamrock Rovers will never die, we'll keep the Green Flag Flying high. 19 Leagues and 25 Cups.....

Apparantly it's raining season during our summer in Africa and they dont want to play it the same time as the euros as they feel it would be overshadowed....hence the tournament being played at such a poxy time

When they buy these players they are fully aware of the situation so give over and get on with it.

In fairness though Billybob, Moyes didn't realise that before signing them..because he was too busy high fiving the real people of Liverpool and getting pictures taken with babies to know that this player/s plays for Nigeria and South Africa and the African Cup is in January.

eh what Bob ? Furthermore breaking news...The FA have backed down and decided not to charge Moyesy after his post match Derby comments relating to sh*te supporter Mark Cluttenburg. After the piss poor performance of the referee on that day, the FA backed their own man and threw the book at Moyesy for a few choice words. Now after realising that Moyesy was probably right in what he said, that the ref was sh*te and biased, they realised it was fight they could do without as it would highlight Cluttenburg's inefficiency, so they decided to drop all charges. Horay for Moysey
