that is a top class goal all the way through, great ball but the 2 touches and finish are brilliant from Obafemi. Let's hope he builds up his fitness and can get a run going

Its gas to think he has some sort of agenda or dislike against him just because he didnt fit into his plans at u21s. Completely different teams with different players and different setup.

He also has never been fit for any sustained amount of time to be included in a number of squads at underage and at senior level to be picked.

If hes playing and scoring he wont be ignored.

We don't have a goalscorer in the squad, parrott, idah, connolly and even Robinson are not going to score many for us.

Robinson of late has been very good but its a bit of a purple patch.

If obafemi gets a few goals he could probably earn his way into the squad. Not sure we're in the position to be picky in this area.

Are there a few question marks on what obafemi wants to do though?

Are there? Please elaborate as to why you ask.

Didn't Connolly make a cryptic tweet about Obafemi the first time he was called up for Ireland?

You're probably remembering the same article/tweet as me. He made some cryptic comments about his Intl future a while back. Let's hope he was sulking.

I think the Obafemi one was related to being left out of a squad moreso than anything to do with Connolly.

The Connolly tweet I was on about goes way back to when Obafemi was first called up.

OK I see, just to be clear, I have no idea about obafemis allegiances on this which is why I was asking. It sounds like it has very little foundation and is purely twitter speculation.

I understand that he wasn't happy at being left out of the squad at one point but for me that is not entirely a bad thing. If fact it sounds like a good thing.

If he starts banging in goals or failing that, starts playing well in a string of games without injury, then it might be time to get excited, but as it stands he's no real swinging Mick (Wink) at the moment.

Just another young gun striker who's somewhat flattered to deceive 2 years on.

Well the first thing with Obafemi is that he is still eligible for our Under 21s, who look desperately short of fire power up front with Idah, Parrott and Connolly gone to the seniors, yet he hasn't been seen in a squad recently. Why is that? He hasn't done a whole lot recently (up until last weekend) but he's still worth an under 21 call up you would think. It suggests that either there's been a falling out or he has made himself unavailable.

I think it's clear enough from past press conferences that Kenny doesn't rate him very highly. There was one where he went on about him not playing a lone striker role in his 4-3-3, but he has since been forced to abandon his own failed 4-3-3 formation in any case so that's presumably no longer of relevance. But he has never picked him or ever suggested that he has been unlucky to miss out. He seems to be nowhere near in Kenny's eyes.

Obviously there's also the ongoing concern of Kenny judging players based on his past experience with them in either the Under 21s or the League of Ireland, when in many cases the players have developed significantly since then. That's a problem that Jim Goodwin alluded to in a recent interview concerning McGrath.

However, having said all that, it's not clear that Obafemi actually has developed much in the last couple of years, between recurring injuries and reported attitude issues he hasn't kicked on at all yet. So we haven't heard much complaint about him missing out, which is fair enough. But it would only take a goalscoring spell over a few weeks for the questions to start up again regarding his complete disappearance from our international setup.

To summarise: Obafemi hasn't done anything to warrant a call up to either the U21s or Senior squad but it is somehow Kenny's fault hes not in the squad.Confused
