Topic: McLeish resigns from the Scotland job Posted: 27 Nov 2007 at 9:35am |
Let's have a managerless UK and Ireland tournament this year, all we need is the welsh to get rid of Toshack....(don't care about N. Ireland)
Alex McLeish has resigned as Scotland manager, and is expected to be unveiled as the new manager of Birmingham tomorrow.
Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith has confirmed that McLeish submitted a written resignation this afternoon.
"We are very disappointed to lose Alex as our manager," said Smith.
Scottish FA president George Peat said in a statement: "It is with regret that I can confirm that Alex McLeish has notified the Scottish FA that he has resigned from his position as national team coach with immediate effect.
"I am disappointed that Alex has chosen this course of action.
"He is an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job with the national team."

On Alex McLeish, do I remember rightly him giving walter smith huge grief when he left the international manager post for rangers? will be interesting if he turns up in birmingham or derby next week?

Just looked at the betting on derby boss
jewel is 1/10 on, and o'deary has drifted from 50/1 to 300/1 in the last 5 mins
i kid you not
Jewel is a cert then. Proves the point a made elsewhere, these markets are manipulated by bookies, they closed the book on ince yesterday having been backed from 33/1 into odds on (now 9/2)
we live in a media frenzied world where the bookies leak to the press a load of speculation, create betting markets and play off each other to make a profit themselves
Now a clever man like Delaney could easily place a few bets himself on who the next ireland manager is with his inside info, pay for a nice holiday for himself, or new house

Insider info stings the bookmakers. The bookmakers just react to the influx of bets on Jewell, for instance.
I remember 4-5years ago a former Irish player had the Young
Palyer of the Year and Senior Player of the year winners. My mate
texted me to put money on them, I didn't. He did and made a
few hundred euro on it.
But often in cases like these it's the Bookies who get stung. I'm sure
they do create some false leads..but rest assured it's mostly the
papers creating the speculation and in turn the fluctuating
markets

It does say a lot about the price of loyalty these days, as well as the state of the national FAs. If i was scottish, there would be no higher accolade then to manage them. McLeish; love him or loathe him ( i suspect the latter) did a good job at gers, and deserved to be named the Scottish manager...and he gave it all up for Birmingham City?!
It reminds me of Kenny Miller in a tenuous way; gave up Champions League football for a part in Derby's cameo appearance in the Premiership. SFA should feel extremely let down, I know my friends do in Glasgow! What price loyalty these days...

In fairness, it is a bit of a balls that ourselves, scotland and Engerland are all lookin for a manager at same time. Presumably the Sasanaigh will pay huge money and we'll be scrappin it out with the scots for Stephen Kenny
|
The sequence now is, should he miss this, and Ireland's next penalty is scored, then the match and the progress are Ireland's....Timofte against Bonner..

That's correct Roger, Miller didn't wanna leave Celtic, Strachan didn't want him to go, but Lawell wanted the miserly transfer fee they got off Derby. I was a fan of Miller in his too short a spell at Celtic, missed a good few goal chances but gave absolutely everything and was Man of the Match in the first 2 CL games at Celtic Park last season, v Copenhagen and Benfica, getting 3 goals.
