For the two ireland games, i believe Doherty had just returned for holiday as Wolves had an extended season and returned to training later than everyone else. so probably not match fit for those games.

I believe that none of our players where where match fit for ireland games.

I fully expect (and hope) that we will see a better performance against Slovakia.

After a couple of years of widespread clambering for Doherty to start under O'Neill and McCarthy, some people are now saying, actually Coleman should be first choice right back LOL

Yep, there's always someone.
The manager needs to bring James McClean to the Euros, he's been a revelation in the premier league for Sunderland since he's moved

The manager needs to play Wes Hoolahan, he's our only creative player

The manager needs to go back and get Stephen Ireland to return, if it means camping outside his house then so be it

The manager needs to play Matt Doherty, our most in form club player

The manager needs to play Andy Reid more, build the team around him

The sad thing is, we're running out of great players that are being ignored. They're all on the team now and we're still sh*t!

From comments on this forum, I think most would like to see both players on the pitch to be fair.

Doherty and Coleman are our first and second best players... (not necessarily in that order)

I really don't buy the thinking that you cant play one at right back and one slightly ahead in a more attacking role...

Can you imagine if they both get use to working together in those roles how flipping awesome the right side of the field would be!!!! Both from an attacking sense (as both are great attacking) and from a defensive sense.

There’s always a few more saviours for these types; your Manning’s, your Smallbone’s, your obafemi’s

If the team is poor then why not try a player like Manning or hoolahan who are playing well for their club team, why not play him at international level?

Ireland have been poor for a long time, Is it really unreasonable to try a promising youngster or a good attacking player instead

Whelan has been a firm fixture in the team up until last month but hasn't played in the premier League since 2017... Whelan has been the best option available to us in that time and even though he failed in Scotland and is now in his second season in L1 some still fancy him as the best option now...

Molumby struggled in his first international game but we should continue to play him as he will improve with experience. He already plays at a higher level than other options

He’s an Arsenal fan. So don’t expect many compliments heading his direction.

Well it isn’t VAR. it’s the rules about hand position being unnatural.

And as an Irish fan VAR would have come in handy in 2009 in Paris.

So the referee reviews the incident for himself, then still decides to award the penalty, but VAR is still to blame?

Jose is obviously concerned about on playoff with Slovakia and with Coleman out, he is being cautious with Doherty.

Seriously though, this isn't bad news for us.
