The Craic: How did Pele pop his cherry?

GAY ABANDON

Former Viagra peddler Pele caused a bit of a stir this week when he was misquoted saying Robinho and Ronaldo take drugs, but it’s probably unlikely he was misquoted when he said old rival Diego Maradona was ‘a bad example’.

Maradona, who apparently spent about 25 years taking cocaine, had a heart attack in 2004 and later suffered from hepatitis as a result of his drink and drug problems. For a time in 2007, you couldn’t move for reports that he’d died.

But he turned over a new leaf, giving up drink and drugs before becoming the boss of the Argentinian national football side. He’s done okay so far, too, beating Scotland and France in friendlies, with just one of his key players going into international retirement because they don’t like him.

His new leaf briefly remained turned at a press conference as well when, asked what he made of Pele’s remarks, he opted against his fabled tactic of shooting the journalists with an air rifle to give a straightforward answer.

“Pele lost his virginity to a man,” he said.

Does anyone else think this football management thing might not last very long for Maradona?

Aww you're just upset because despite your best efforts, you've still yet to "debut with a man"

Maradonna by a mile. We all know he won the World Cup in 86 on his own . In his first season at Napoli he won the scudetto . First time in 60 years they won it. All this with average players around him. Pele had great players around him from 1 to 11
l hear you are a racist now, father ?

Nobody ever seen Pele play properly anyway apart from maybe the odd world cup game and a few clips. Dont think RTE showed Brazilian Football back in the day. I only speak about players ive seen and i only really seen Maradona in his darkest days. My greatest of all time is Ronaldo because ive seen him play and not just read stuff in a newspaper or storys from other people. Its just like saying Jennifer Love Hewitt is the greatest shag of all time by hearing storys about how great she is in the sack. Say what you see not what you hear from other people.
