So is this now the precedent set for other clubs, as in say united get Berbatov, Owen, Rooney, Macheda, Diouf all injured and Welbecks out on loan..... does that mean they can get an emergency striker signed from another club outside of the transfer window or does it only specifically apply to goal keepers? Anyone know?

Interesting question, I would say that the powers that be would say it only applies to goalkeepers because it's a specialised position, but I don't think there is much recognition for that sort of thing like there is in rugby. On another note, when Fulop goes into the team ahead of Nielsen, will there be questions to answer over how much of an emergency there actually was? Thought this was about have a spare... |

I wonder if they do get 4th place will the likes of Tottenham complain at a higher level about how there is an unfair advantage, similar to that of West Ham and Sheffield United over the Tevez saga!

i think it only applies to outfield players when you can't field a full starting lineup

this was always the case, it's not like they are just making an exception just for City, sure not long ago Villa did it, they got that keeper that used to play in goal for crystal palace, cant think of his name but he used to wear tarcksuit bottoms everytime he played, i think it only applies for keepers aswell

Absolute disgcrace that City were able to bring in an emergency loan keeper, takes the piss though when they bring him in and start him when they have a perfectly fit keeper at the club already

This. City could easily have drafted an academy GK as bench cover, as it's pretty unlikely that he would be used with just three games remaining. Spurs will have a huge complaint. I can see this going to arbitration if they miss out. |

I think they've acted appaulingly and as I've said repeatedly just shows they extent of their new money attitude, bring in a heap of attacking palyers at inflated prices but don't build a squad properly... |

Interesting article in the Irish Times yesterday which I can't seem to find online but Citeh apparently have 9 keepers on their books (incl Joe Hart) 4 of whom seem to be still at the club and aren't injured and yet they were allowed to sign Fulop on an 'emergency loan basis'

Don't blame City's profligacy in the transfer market. That they've failed to get the squad right is neither here nor there. What's at issue here, is the bending of the rules by the games rulers, as they had enough keepers. I've always disliked the hard and fast transfer window concept, which might get a makeover after this fiasco. |

I think their transfer activity is relavent because an experienced club who weren't going gung ho flexing their financial muscles would have sat down at said we need x, y and z, which includes a number of decent keepers. Before the transfer window was in place couldn't you simply buy players all year long until a cut off date towards the end of the season? What would you do instead to replace the transfer window? |
