Most but not all airlines have guns now too in the cockpit.

An Italian and Austrian who were listed as passengers are alive and well. They had their passports stolen beforehand.

Would that mean they were checked into the flight and all? Is there a link to the story anywhere. That's insane.

These passports were stolen over a year ago and appear to have been used by others to get on the plane.. Something fishy went on.. |

Says on twitter that both passports were stolen in Thailand.
Obviously a lot of sh*te on twitter as well but this doesn't seem like it was an accident. Edited by Conor Messi - 08 Mar 2014 at 3:45pm |

Fishy alright, but could be anything. Criminal gangs do it all the time.
Cant think of any reasoning for terrorists to use a different alias from their own

Would that not be extremely unlikely? How many people worldwide are on no fly lists (excluding the US)

No idea. Why would an innocent person use a stolen passport? Two people seem to have used them for this flight.. |

Criminal gangs would use them. Drug runners/tax evaders/fugitives

Officials in Vietnam have said that rescue planes searching for a missing Malaysia Airlines plane that vanished from radar screens over the South China Sea have spotted oil slicks. There were no reports of bad weather and no sign why the Boeing 777-200 ER, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent engines, would have vanished from radar screens about an hour after take-off. The plane had 227 passengers and 12 crew on board when it went missing. |

True not denying that. Just making the point Im sure there are hundreds of flights every day that have people travelling on false passports. Time will tell I suppose but your stereotypical terrorist would not resemble Italian or Austrian citizens either. Now for all I know these two fellas could but unlikely from my point of view. Not sure how easy or possible it is to change the photo in a passport..

Not true at all. Different procedures per airline. For example, someone entitled to carry a gun. gun in case left with owner or as a checked in bag. Owner carries bullets. Pilot carries key to the box. I could tell you the procedures for at least 4 different airlines, none of which would have a gun in the cockpit. |
