Hi guys just want to know your thoughts on following,

Like most people or nearly everyone has had some kind of travel disruption over the last 18 months or most likely longer and with virus still hanging around and the expected or rumored 4th lockdown whenever we hit the autumn / winter  flu season again this year and the new strains of the virus found is this just going to be an endless cycle and transatlantic / world travel will still be off the cards for the next number of years regardless if you have been vaccinated or not? So i suppose what I'm really getting at is when do you think that world travel will be expected to start again? I know that this is the million dollar question and very difficult to answer. But the main reason i have asked is I'm planning on surprising my wife for our 10th wedding anniversary June 2022 so my plan was to go back to St Lucia where we spent our honeymoon or I'm i wasting my time trying to arrange something 14 months in advance with the highly likelihood that longhaul international travel will still be some while off?

Apologies in advance if this has already been discussed and if so please feel free to delete or lock this thread.

USA travel should begin around June time based on comments from the EU commissioner in the last week. Where are you flying to St Lucia from? Is it the U.K Gatwick/LHR. St Lucia should be one of the first islands outside of the EU to be safe in May in Britain. By next year Trans EU travel to North America should have recovered to 2019 levels. And that’s not just my opinion it’s also the opinion of IATA. I’d say with relative confidence next summer a trip to St Lucia is a safe bet. Due to vaccine passports which will eventually be similar to what yellow fever was, along with most of the world being vaccinated. I’d look at TUI/Virgin Atlantic as they’ve been good this year and in 2020 with refunds, they where also the first to guarantee various bits and bobs for the costumer.

What’ll take longer is the Hub to hub travel that the Gulf carriers specialise in. Due to mixing in the terminal. I’ve personally two trips to the USA in Sep/Dec from 2020 that I fully expect to be on. Thanks to AZ/Moderna and Pfizer.

I’m just a horse, but that’s my humble professional opinion.

Thanks TigerRoll its Dublin / Gatwick / St Lucia return 8th June 2022 for 10 nights with BA I've only paid the hotel deposit so far as the flights haven't been loaded onto the travel agents system yet so please god and fingers crossed in 14 months time we will be able to travel.

Funnily enough the airport code at St Lucia is called UVF lol

The only reason I've gone with a travel agent is we will have full protection just incase everything goes tits up again and they will take full responsibility to issue all refunds.

I forgot about the high street travel agent, I usually just book online now! Hence why I mentioned TUI/VA. But yeah you’ve 100% done the right thing, we done the same and used the travel agent for our trips. You’ll be enjoying the weather in St Lucia in 22! Something to look forward too again! Clap Veaux Fort I think is where the airport is in Saint Lucia LOL

The answer is nobody knows!

What seems to be a consensus on is that this virus us going to have various strains over the next couple of years. Itll never go away.

Question is how effective will the vaccines be in keeping effect minimal - and if vaccines will be easily changed to combat the various strains if needed.

The next big question is how will governments react. We cant keep locking down everything on and off over the next few years surely.

If a Naval air trainee from Miramar says the flights will happen that’s good enough for me.

I’m hoping to book something similar but will wait later on in the year.

Cheers for the feedback lads. I only have the hotel on deposit as the flight prices haven't dropped into the travel agents system yet so once they do I'm going to take the risk that again in 14 months time transatlantic travel will be open.
