Thanks FW. As you can tell its a pet hate of mine, mainly because I've listened to this nonsense all my life. Drives me mad to hear the likes of Spillane on the Sunday game or GAA media heads/county managers constantly drawing comparisons of GAA players with Premiership soccer players as if we were suddenly goin to have an epiphany and realise we werent "true Irishmen" for watchin the dreaded "foreign game". Excuse me french but this attitude sickens me bollix. Half of these hypocrites couldnt sing Amhrán na Bhfíann if their media punditry fees and unofficial Management Salary-disguised-as-expenses payments depended on it

i'll admit, i'm a hurling man before a football (soccer lol ! ) man but i completely agree. Its worlds apart so the comparisons in terms of money and whatever comes with it is null and void in my opinion.

The relaxing of rule 42 was a big step but further down the chain the sports really should just live and let live.

cookie im delighted when I hear amateur gaa players being praised they deserve alot more than any of the overpaid prem spice boys, at least these boys take pride in playing for the club/county and don't make a show of themselves like some footballers rolling around after getting a littler tip..i.e Dida, Drogba etc etc..

I've no problem with them being praised in the context of their own game but I take exception to the constant comparisons with Soccer by GAA die hards who are using it as a vehicle to berate any of us that talk about and support soccer. I was a GAA player for many years and not bad one even if I say so myself but I gave it the 2 fingers after my club gave me the ultimatum of giving up playing soccer if I wanted to remain a GAA player. I chose soccer because of this narrow minded attitude that still prevails today. Why cant they just praise the merits of their own game without having to resort to pointing out the perceived flaws in other codes?
If they want to whinge about highly paid soccer players why don't they just pay their OWN players? They wont even give them the €5M the Government set aside for GAA players vis a vis GPA Chief Dessie Farrell having to threaten a strike to get it??!!
The GAA continue to compare apples with oranges when comparing GAA to soccer because they're so fookin insecure about the popularity of their own game that they feel the need to attack soccer in the hope that it will persuade young people from choosing to play it. I played both codes quite successfully until I was told I had to choose one over the other. Isnt there room for us all? As for soccer players "rolling around after gettin a little tip", well we all hate to see that, but I've seen the 'feigned injury' charade in GAA as well Ryaner, and after all, this is the organisation that has been whinging and crying that the Aussies were too rough with them in the International rules! Suck it up lads. Stick to commenting on yer own game and its merits and not rubbishing other codes to try and make yerselves look better. It's a bit pathetic and old at this stage.
