Very interesting that Cork GAA have implied the 'ah, our hands are tied' excuse. Have a look at any motion that could have been deemed progressive at any GAA congress in the last 10 years, and you will find that along with the Ulster counties, Cork voted no to every single one of them, including Rule 42, and Frank or one of his minions usually went as far as speaking against those motions (regardless of what it was) as well.

Its an archaic structure for what is in reality a pretty modern organisation. It goes something like this; Lads get elected onto club committees because nobody else wants to do it.
Club players & members are very often not canvassed on any motions for congress, and even if they are, a lot don't bother going to their own club's AGM's where these things might be discussed and voted on, so their views are not necessarily taken into account.
Added to that, a huge amount of GAA attendees are not members of any club, so their views count for nothing at all, even though they put money into the organisation every year.
Club delegates are then given a mandate to vote one way or another, which they have often ignored in the past, or gone to the jacks when the vote was taking place, thus abstaining from the vote of the day completely.
Any motion needs a 2/3rds majority to pass (though I'd imagine the UK government might wish they had thought of that 18 months ago)
The result is then declared as a result for GAA democracy.
It's nothing of the sort- at best, it is reflective of a percentage of the GAA membership (which obviously varies from club to club exactly how representative that is) and ignores the opinions of many other stakeholders in the GAA like non members or sponsors completely.
Then you get things like this, where most GAA members see the sense in it, but those in charge run for the rulebook every single time and choose to hide behind it instead of confronting it for the nonsense it is.

It's on at 3pm on a f**king Tuesday in Cork. Off all the people who are giving out at a national level, I'd love to know what % actually would be in a position to attend even if it were in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

I'd hazard that there wouldn't be that many. For those that are saying it's for a good cause etc, there is still nothing stopping you donating money if you feel so strongly about it.

Turner's Cross is the right place to have it, and have it heaving and give a right memorial to the man. As opposed to a soulless sh*t show of a half empty stadium - See Croke Park last weekend

Examiner reporting that El Governmento is going to ask the Cork CB why this game can't take place in PUC, there may be some question about whether OUR 30 million quid came with conditions or not, ie it may not have been given intended strictly for GAA use.

Just remembered reading something earlier in the year from PUC director/manager Bob Ryan -he was asked about the possibility of Munster Rugby playing a game there this year, I presume it would have been a biggish European game rather than a rabo direct bulmers magners celtic league super 14/16 game, and I think his words were along the lines of being very excited by the possibility and was going to look in to it. Dunno if that was headed for congress or not, something tells me probably not.

I think there was something on second captains earlier in the year about the Cork county representative, is he retiring this year, and everyone is delighted to see the back of him?

I wouldn't disagree that the system, in practice, doesn't work as well as designed. If people engaged more, it might not be the case. That said, the alternative would be an organisation run from the top down with one person having a disproportionate amount of power to run thing as they like. Ring any bells for anybody ???

Can we not just get Stam, Scholes, Giggs etc to play a hurling game instead ?? Problem solved !

Seriously though, would love if somebody would bring a rule change to congress next time to make sure this situation doesn't arise again.

Only read about this last night shocking from the GAA, as some say they have no worries with having Garth Brooks or Taylor Swift play Croke Park

About 45,000 judging by social media....

Seriously though, anybody know if they are doing anything like selling non-match tickets just so you can support the event if you aren't able to go ? Would like to do that if there was.

GAA hate football but love seeing football people play GAA

Remind you of anyone?
