Thaksin, as we all know, is another lovely man and all associated with him are regarded in the highest esteem.

Again, to repeat myself, that doesn't mean I wanted him dead, or cared if he lived or died at all, more that I struggle to understand the false pity and mourning. A dodgy rich guy buys a football club as a plaything, most likely to deflect from how he got rich, and 'English football is in mourning' over a 'genuine guy' who bought some fans a beer once.

I find insincerity more twisted.

Don't think its necessarily false pity or mourning, maybe misguided perhaps. This chap, maybe deliberately, or maybe because he was a genuine nice fella to some extent, seemed to identify with the fans and either push a man of the people image, or maybe it wasn't an image and he remembered what it was like when he was one of the people.  In turn, the fans seemed to like him, not least because his money made something ridiculous possible, and they might have got a few free beers along the way.

Some of these owners engage with the wider community, like this lad and to a lesser degree, the fellas at Liverpool. Nobody has heard Abramovich utter a word in public since he came to England, the chap at Arsenal is detested, not too many Man U fans would miss the Glazers, Dan Levy is a front for his real boss who keeps an extremely low profile, Sheikh whatever his name is doesn't hold too many press conferences,  just to give a few examples of other owners who aren't engaged with anything other than balance sheets at those clubs, or in Man City's particular case, a giant global PR campaign on behalf of lads that like to flog/stone/behead people.

I think it is for that reason that Leicster fans felt (likely incorrectly) that they knew their chairman personally or reasonably well at least and to that extent, their feelings are reasonably genuine. He wasn't some remote figure to them as he could be seen every fortnight, and a good few seemingly did meet him over the years.

There is also the very tragic nature of his death, which would elicit some sympathy from most people, except on here, where it is used to denounce capitalism (surely a separate argument unconnected to this man, if he wasn't the chairman, someone like those mentioned above would be, they are all cut from much the same cloth except that the Arabs are undoubtedly worse people than the rest), take a cut at some players' social media posts (like, it is possible that Vardy has some grievance with Puel/the club, but also liked the chairman as an individual, or are those 2 things mutually exclusive??) and of course, none of it would be complete without some attention seeking crass joke, so well done everyone on that.

He was one of the best at laundering his reputation alright, of that there is little doubt. It is hardly surprising, making the right (or wrong) people like him is what made him rich.

it's just strange behavior.

chopper goes down in dramatic circumstance. people lose their lives. the owner of a club who is loved by all at the club inc. fans is one of the dead so there's a natural outpouring of grief. by all accounts he has poured millions into local hospitals. he's bankrolled the greatest story/ shock in modern football. and then people on here rip the p*ss and attack the man. primarily it would seem because he is loaded and accuse him of being an unsavory character - i might add without actually any detail / facts.

perhaps some people just live in a state of permanent cynicism. it's just really weird if nothing else.

Rich man uses philanthropy and sport to launder reputation while avoiding tax.

again, light of facts...

all i can find is the court case for corruption that was dismissed.

anything else?

it almost sounds like you just have a hatred for rich people in general. what you will generally find is premier league football clubs are owned by rich people.

He was given a monopoly for all Thai airport duty free for (seemingly) a lot less than it was worth, along with the licence to open a massive duty free mall in downtown Bangkok.

Plus there's a court case where he's alleged to have conspired to give the government only 3% of revenues rather than the 15% agreed.

Regardless of anything else, and I do mean literally anything else, it is beyond dispute that he was a multi-billionaire, where the primary source of his wealth is running a duty free shop chain, the rights to which were granted as a result of government contracts, often granted without tender, in a country where GDP per capita is about €15 per day. None of that is in dispute and that is quite certainly sketchy as hell, and a few free beers or cokes doesn't come close to covering the cost of what he has taken from the Thai people. I'm not saying I blame anyone for gaming the system but you shouldn't fawn over a dead rich man any more than a dead poor man, especially where the source of the rich's man wealth is far from beyond question.

Good results thus far for Brodge.

Anyone seen their games, how have they been playing?

Seems to be playing a prolonged buildup, lots of short passes up the field, which on paper shouldn't suit Vardy, but he's been in the goals recently.

That said, their last 2 games have been won by goals from Wes Morgan, so not sure you can read too much into it.

Telemans is turning into a great signing for them.

I've been at their last three games, tbh i don't think they have been spectacular, the opposition has certainly helped them out. It'll be interesting to see if they can sign Tielemens in the summer, i can see Rogers wasting a load of money, bringing in someone like Sturridge as well.
