Anyone know if there's any Irish connection? Was born in England, but with a name like that...

Made his debut for Bolton today and was 'outstanding' according to skysports. Taken off by Owen Coyle in the 90th minute so that he could have a standing ovation from the crowd.

Being a white man born in England, there's a good chance Riley has Irish heritage. McCarthy is a black man born in South Africa.

Good job you're not a scout for the country.

From Salford too, Mick McCarthy's home place, think some other former or present Irish player was born there too, not unlikely that he has an Irish connection....

I did think that after I posted it, but it happens. Riley is merely another version of Reilly. Albeit an anglicised version.
