Have a feeling it maybe pulled like all sport this weekend .

Schedules are tight as is can they afford to call off all games for the next ten days. Championship teams be f**ked with them also taking a break for the WC group stages.

Funeral likely next weekend too so could be two game weeks off.

That would mean no Premier League or Championship games until October because of the international window, two Premier League and three Championship game days lost. Would be very hard to claw that back with the World Cup taking up a good few weeks as well.

Wears the black armband, stands in silence for the minutes silence so the knuckle draggers have a pop at him because he wasn't linking out of his team mates in the centre circle.

Also got the assist for the winner.

I'm no McClean fan by any means but the fuss people are going to this evening looking to be offended by him is ridiculous. Stood there, head bowed and wearing a black armband and people are calling him out for not linking arms.
Doesn't help on the other hand that the flag waving chest thumping republicans are looking at the same picture and trying to make out he's some kind of hero and that he's being deliberately disrespectful.

Conducted himself impeccably from what I can see and still can't win
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes an even bigger man to laugh at that man.

Wigan did. Up to eighth in this ultra tough league that they were widely predicted to struggle in and with a game in hand over most of those above them. McClean has been in great form for them so far this season.

He wore the black armband. That should be the end of the matter.

Correct, listening to RTE the last few days, you would think we should all be royalists. No dissenting voices allowed! While she may very well have been a nice woman, she was the figurehead of an institution, which was part of a war machine that behaved abominably not just in Ireland, but around the world. Her efforts in latter years to build bridges was welcome, but no Irish person should be made feel under any obligation to doff the cap.

Given McClean’s sentiments, there is no question it was a big step to wear an armband which symbolises the death of a Monarch. There may well be other players around the leagues who will take the opportunity to let the colour of their jersey camouflage the fact they aren’t wearing it, and rely on the lack of media attention (comparative, at least to McClean) to do the rest.

Well it's less than 2 months until 11th November so he'll be back to being the hate figure for not wearing a poppy.

Surprised but glad he wore it. I just couldn't hack it if he hadn't.

I assume some day he will share with us that he stood away from his colleagues as he was not bowing his head or standing in silence for the same reason as the rest of them.

Probably paying his own remembrance to the memories of the children who were slaughtered in his home city and had nailbombs planted on their dead corpses to make it look like they were part of the IRA. Well, that's what I imagine.

Not amongst Wigan fans anyway.

Not 1 single Irish player provided any support to McClean when he needed it.  Yet, last night Wigan fans were very vocal in their support for him and fair play to them too.

That was what I had in mind but didn't feel the need to draw it out or articulate an assumption on James' behalf like you did.

Some good crosses and an excellent delivery from the corner for our goal from the much-maligned one.
