Would imagine from Stephen's point of view there is still lots of emotional baggage there and it would put unwanted renewed focus on the ending of his own International career. Also, his son would inevitably be carrying this baggage.

All things considered, it is best he plays for England.

He also has to play for England at that age group. His dad was eligible for both Italy and England through the, eh, granny rule.

Best for who?

For Ireland when we have one fewer professional footballer to pick from?

For the lad who has a good club career but not stellar enough to get into the England 11?

The fact is that it was the likes of Stephen Hunt bullying Ireland that made him jump ship. Hunt is long gone and admired by nobody. If I had the ear of this lad, I'd tell him to pull on the green shirt and tell Hunt to f-off if he ever sees him. Do his father proud.

Lads there's already a thread on him if you want to discuss what that flute and his offspring are up to. Thumbs Up

Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Granted there is a degree of speculation on my behalf but I would find it hard to see him having any feeling of connection to the Irish international football. I also think that given who he is, if he were to make it, the  level of scrutiny he would be under would be huge. Everytime he had to pull out of a squad with injury there would be a national inquiry into the health status of his grandmother!!

I would be willing to lose a potential player in circumstances such as these.

No argument on your views on his father's treatment by Hunt..

I will be interested to see if James McClean goes along with the black lives matter whenever he is playing next.

Not a man to go along easily with an empty political gesture and has already had a go at the amount of coverage racism gets while sectarian abuse gets very little.

Don’t see why he wouldn’t, and don’t know by what measure you consider kneeling to be an empty gesture.

Also, if you need to have a line drawn between the civil rights struggle in Northern Ireland and the United States, I’d recommend pretty much any book on NICRA and the battle of the bog side. Find one and, you know, read one.

Possibly you’re correct. I’ll just watch the space. Maybe he’s injured anyway.

Looks like Stoke could get relegated. Wonder if James would get a move back to the Championship if they go down.

I think they'll stay up, poor though they've been, especially with the Wigan situation. If not, James and Nathan Collins will surely be sold to bigger clubs out of financial necessity but could be the end of the road for Stephen Ward.
