Serious question, is he good enough to break in and start for Palace?

I think he is but will need a run of games before hes back to his best.

Palace midfield really don't fill me with confidence at the moment and I feel McCarthy is a much better player than andros Townsend

His only chance of changing that game would have been if Roy had sent him on with a fully loaded Uzi! LOL

(He could have started off by shooting Van Aanholt. And a volley in the direction of Zaha wouldn't have done any harm, either.)

Disappointing not to see him in the current squad.
Nothing against Whelan but forth from bottom with Hearts doesn't inspire confidence.

McCarthy is coming off the bench regularly for Palace now and slowly getting back to the level he was before.
Surely he would have been useful as a substitute appearance against Georgia?

Whelan is playing regularly (which should be a must for one of our starters anyways) and plays well for us generally.

I'm not worried about that. Mc Carthy hasn't been playing for us or club so needs game time.

Plus the Hearts fans are loving Whelan so he must be doing something right up there.

Don’t need him. Glenn Whelan starts for Hearts.

Playing quite well so far. Still has the annoying habit of running into positions where he can't be passed to, but when he has got in the ball he's looked comfortable.
We're decent enough..

McCarthy has had far better games for Ireland than Whelan has, they've both had their fair share of stinkers too though.

If anything, McCarthy committed to Ireland to the detriment of his Everton career. He played for us when Koeman didn’t want him to.

I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

For one, his performance against Germany was on an entirely different level to anything Whelan has ever produced in his entire career.
