Wouldn't speak ill of the Dead , but he was a Shoneen Cxxt,  the cracked heads in '95 Garvaghy Road, the fawning over Charles, his disdain for George  Mitchell, caught in the headlights when canary wharf and Manchester  happened,  did not know any concept of actually dealing with national  question

Economic migrants now protesting outside their tents in Dublin calling for justice. We're they promised something else before coming? Going by Roderick's advertisements on twitter I don't blame them. Tricked by our government.

Btw do we need an immigration or refugee thread instead of using politics?

Can we just have a separate thread to contain all your ramblings?

I think it probably is best to have a stand alone thread as a few threads end.up going that way

It's so jarring to read Donnelly's quotes of increased funding for the hospital in Limerick in this article, the same day as the funeral of one of these girls

For a supposedly rich country this should not be happening time and time again. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns and sort the mess out in our health system. It doesn't mean more money, it means more Joined up thinking. Covid showed how vulnerable the system was. Is anything properly being done to rectify things since. I feel for people working in health tbh. Must be thankless

Just awful stuff. Money wont fix the problem. The MidWest has a population of 450k and UHL is the only ED for all those people. Ridiculous.

It's a well funded sector. But the management of it is systemically inadequate.

management level at any type of employment in Ireland is shockingly poor. Just because you have a bit of paper saying you qualify ain’t necessarily so.

Is that really the case? Know quite a few friends who have moved back home after working in a badly funded NHS and they seem to think Ireland is worse.

My neighbor is 82 and got sick before the Christmas and they brought him to UHL. He left the hospital sicker than what he was going in.

Said he'd rather die at home in the comfort of his own bed than on a trolley in UHL if his family tried ringing the ambulance again for him.

Funding is one thing. Using it correctly is another.

In South Korea doctors are striking because they don't want the government to bring in any extra doctors. There's so few doctors there that they can earn $200k a year, and they are afraid that their salaries will decrease.
That seems to be my take on it.

The dark side.. And the light

Exactly and it needs to come from the top down, government a bystander and happy to point out their health care budget as justification for their faillings.

I know feck all about budgets and politics in health care but I can never understand why the health system is every persons number 1 gripe about the government yet no Government seems to want to pump a load of money into it and fund white elephant projects instead.

And another thing why is the points so high to get into med school?  There are plenty of people smart enough to pass med exams if they were let in to med school.  I can't understand why there aren't way more places for students to do med school considering the chronic lack of doctors here and we have to import them from India etc..

My only reasoning is that they want to keep medicine exclusive and a closed shop for the elite few to keep their salaries high.

What harm is letting more students in?  If they fail the exams its on them and they drop out. Its not going to dilute the quality of doctors graduating.
