Mick Barry? A fella across the road from me never paid his rent in SEVEN years. He was finally being evicted and Mick Barry and his megaphone brigade organised a blockade. It takes a lot to be evicted from a council house.

Truth be told, he'd be my selection too, from a SF point of view.

Politicians in this country are all a bunch of bluffing, money hungry chancers and I include every party in that. Hence why I have chosen to abstain my vote in the last few elections.

If SF ever get into power their pie in the sky policies would go out the window. Tax the rich is basically their mantra on almost everything. I firmly believe as bad as we are right now we wud go to pot if that lot ever got in.

She's excellent on medical matters, she has blown apart people who have advanced conspiracy theories, she seems very strong on blowing apart fake news

She is extremely liberal on social matters

Fair play to her if she has seven pharmacies, you say that like it's a bad thing, she clearly knows how to run a business

I also have little problem with TDs getting 96k a year, I doubt she gets too much in expenses given where she lives

Plus she's bleedin' gorgeous and talks like a docker, I like strong women like that

I wouldn't vote for her but she's as good as FG have

Don’t reply back with a “they’re awful” without listing your favourites

FF - Jim O'Callaghan
FG - Jennifer Carroll McNeill (when a member of the Oireachtas, Noel Rock)
SF- Pearse Doherty
SDs - Catherine Murphy (My personal favourite TD)
Green - Eamonn Ryan
Lab - Ivana Bacik
Independent- Michael McDowell
Left Wing  - Thomas Pringle

I'd be interested to know how many people on here would avoid answering, simply because they believe the "collect twelve crisp packets and become a TD/Senator" of their preferred party are better than any of the high quality members of other ones.

Catherine Murphy is great I would agree, I have no respect for any FG/FF politician so couldn’t possibly answer.

just wondering how she is on 96k a year though as some posters have stated.

She is a former TD who will be entitled to a pension one day but not now.  I believe she didn’t get the nod to run for the Seanad either.

With AOR as a top spokesman, and politicians like Ivana Bacik there, Labour will be a home for social progressives. And in that respect, a progressive party who understands government. Otherwise, its the Shinners, or the protest parties who at the moment are outdoing themselves.

Labour hasn't been home for social progressives in years, even if some progressives like Bacik remain. Ireland needs a proper left of centre party( so does England!), but neither Labour or SF are it.
