Aidan Downes (born July 24th 1988 in Dublin) is an Irish football player currently playing for the Everton Reserves.

He was originally contracted to Tolka Rovers but Everton paid £90,000 in Compensation to acquire his services. Aidan scored on his Republic of Ireland Under-21 debut in October 2007 against Sweden.

The boy at St Pauli in Germany, cant remember his name but has scored a few for the Irish youths this year is meant to be a real sh1t-hot prospect.

Connor Clifford isnt living up to his potential at Chelsea, himself and Jacob Mellis signed at the same time and both are the same age and in the same position. But Mellis is playing all the games, Clifford isnt gettting a sniff.

Aidan Downes is nothing either, hes nearly 20 and hasnt been near the first team at Everton. I he was good he would have been given the same opportunities as Anichebe and Vaughan.

Conor Hourihane is making great strives at Sunderland. Although iv heard hes a bit of a scally and likes the drink so hopefully that wont put paid to any of his chances!

The likes of Clifford and Brady and a few others maybe shouldnt be going to such big teams as United and Chelski. These teams rarely ever bring through any kids anymore.
IMO, if these lads really want get a chance playing first team footy they should be looking at lesser clubs that may not give them with as much money but will provide more opportunities for them. There's quite a few championship clubs that provide their "kids" with such chances in the first team....there's quite a few young Irish lads with Championship clubs and reaping the rewards of first team footy

Shame about Dixon.

Brady sounds good going by what's being said on at various sites. Has he played irish youth football? What position? Is he lightweight?
If any of the big teams will give young players a chance then I suppose it's Utd. I'd never go to Liverpool or Chelsea and wouldn't go to Arsenal unless i had a grip on the french language

I hate when we hear of the next big thing to come out of Ireland but then they are little farts that end up back in the Eircom League. good skill but not strong enough. Willo flood comes into that catagory.

From what i'v heard this Brady fella is class. Havent heard too much about him since his move to United but lets hope he does well.

Christy Fagan at United is one of our top prospects. I remember reading something about the lack of top English players who were playing in the FA Youth Cup Final and Fagan was described as the best player during those two games.

Hopefully Clifford can settle down a bit because i hear he shows flashes of brilliance and has shown this whilst training with the first team but just needs to edge himself ahead of Mellis so he can at least play reserve team football.

Gavin Gunning is another top prospect. He was at Crumlin at the same time as Clifford and now plays for Blackburn.

Darragh Satelle has decided to stay at Crumlin from that age group and has played brilliantly for the Irish underage sides. He actually kept Karl Sheppard on the bench for some of the recent games played for Ireland. Unsure why he hasnt moved across the water yet but im sure its only a matter of time.

Awful shame to hear that about Dixon, had such great hopes for that lad. Does the article give anymore details about what he's going to do or whether he can still play?
