Ye, I think the school in question released a statement a good while earlier. It's the only school I've heard issuing a statement thus far

DIT have confirmed that many of its current pupils including the lad that I knew had many close friends and UCD have issued a statement also.

Don't know any of the people who passed away personally but I've a number of close friends absolutely distraught who were very close to some of them. Its such a terrible tragedy.
I haven't seen it but if that is the star picture that really is disgusting. Astonishingly crass. |

Just seen the picture in the shop there. Awful image and what it must be like to be a relation or friend of some sort to be seeing someone you care about lying dead on the road in a body bag.
Have to admit my first reaction seeing that on Vincent Browne was 'Can't believe they printed that'but being honest I wasn't half as outraged when I seen the step by step photos of the wounded French cop being executed during the Charlie Hebdo murders. The first picture had your man walking up to him, second had the gun pointed with the cop holding his arm out and the third him walking off after killing the cop. Do we only draw a line at it if it's somebody we potentially know, closer to home, that they're Irish? Were people on here outraged? Have to admit I wasn't myself even though the pictures were just as graphic. I'm not having a go at anyone but I think we do in general tolerate pictures of bad taste if they're happening further afield. |

You're right mufc. We can have images of dead 'brown' people all over our screens and no one bats an eyelid.
It's just association though, due to the high number of people who have died and the size of Ireland a lot of people will at least know someone who knew the deceased. |
