EPL looking as bare as I've ever seen it in terms of Irish players. Realistically looking at only a small number of Irish players making 25 man squads in the league this year - Doherty, Duffy, Coleman, Kelleher, Travers, possibly Ronan, maybe Randolph as a third choice keeper. Then Bazunu and Collins who are underage so don't need to be on the squad lists. Maybe Ferguson might get some minutes also but that seems to be about it.

Idah, Omobamidele, Springett, K Long, S Long, Smallbone, Hendrick, Clark and Connolly who all played at least some minutes in the Premier League last season have dropped out.

Probably our lowest number of players ever in the league this season.

Championship absolutely stacked. And plenty have moved up to League One from Championship. There has almost been a cycle of players this summer from LoI to League One. And from League 1 to Championship. With a little bit of patience, the Championship to Premiership evolution will catch on soon enough too.

The only players I can see getting any reasonable EPL time next season are -

Travers
Bazunu
Coleman
Doherty
Collins

So two keepers and three defenders, not great.

I can see Duffy being frozen out with Brighton and likely a loan move in January similar to the celtic move.

I've been thinking of a tutorial on how some of the stats I post are created for a little while, and made these two episodes over the last few weeks.

Episode 1 - Introduction to the data
How the player and game data is stored, and accessed

Episode 2 - Losses, Wins, and Substitutes
Explaining how three different stats were created using the data
  • That Stephen Kenny is the first Ireland manager to lose two games to teams ranked outside the top 90
  • That the winning margin against Scotland was the largest against a higher ranked side in a competitive game since rankings were introduced
  • That Alan Browne's goal against Belgium was the fastest by a substitute since James Collins V Serbia

They are both a little technical, so some knowledge of programming is assumed, but I'd hope they're both still relatively accessible.
Not sure how many more of these I'll work on, but I'm not going to go through three stats in a single episode again!

Really great project tetsujin1979, do you update the JSON files after each game yourself or is that automated?
