Show that to Martin O'Neill and he will say we are over achieving that we should be in league D.

Would we really rather have Kyle Lafferty/Gareth McAuley, for example, starting for Rangers in the Europa League than Shane Long/Shane Duffy starting for their respective clubs in the Premier League?

We're decent enough..

Of course not O'Shea, but there are players from the north in other positions who are better than ours.
Its an alarming stat given the other nations mentioned. |

Lies, lies and damned statistics. There is a kernel of truth in it though.

It’s not a great stat alright but what northern players do you think would get into our starting 11 if we were at full strength?

I'm not so sure if it's an alarming stat or just a consequence of fact that essentially all of our players ply their trade in England. We have plenty of guys who would be good enough to play for Romanian/Danish/Swedish/Polish/Norwegian qualifiers to the CL and EL, the fact that they've chosen to play for mid-ranking English sides instead doesn't make them any worse.

I'd sooner have Lafferty leading our line than Long. More than anything though these stats are a reflection of how we have a domestic league of the quality of a Group D nation.
