What a great first half, Hendrick was fantastic. It was miles away from the friendly against Belarus. I haven't seen anything like that from one of our players in years. Hoolahan's goal was a thing of beauty. I'm absolutely chuffed for him, 4 years ago he probably thought he'd never play at a major tournament.

I can't understand why we fall away after scoring. It was like we didn't settle until they scored. Still, I probably would've taken a draw in this game. I felt we could get a win against Belgium and after seeing them tonight, it looks even more possible.

We seemed to retreat after we scored but we also appeared to completely lose concentration - Sweden almost scored twice in the two or three minutes after Hoolahan's goal, which would have been very embarrassing.

Overall though, a very positive display and our two best chances came from open attacking play.

We didn't win because the players lacked courage. Even the manager made attacking changes but the players didn't want any of it.

It was like being in a fight and giving it the large one, throwing combinations but as soon as the other guy hit you once, you gave up and submitted.

As good a performance in the 1st half as anything we have seen in a finals, bar the opening nervy minutes.  The goal should've kicked us on but it was as if we just froze after scoring and for the next 20 minutes, Sweden dominated and the left back had the freedom of the Stade de France, but we rallied again well and should've won the game on the overall play.

But I'm really encouraged ahead of Bordeaux and the players should be also.

That said, Coleman and Long can and must do alot better, McCarthy is under serious pressure for his place as he was anonymous and Walters is probably out if he couldn't run after the 1st minute.

On the plus side, superb performances from Clark (apart from the unlucky goal), O'Shea (outstanding), Brady, Hendrick, Whelan and the marvellous Wes.  It is an absolute scandal Trapattoni left this lad to rot for the best part of 6 years, he is a gem and I'm so delighted for his goal and his brilliant performance.

Really proud of the boys yesterday. Clap

Agree regarding Coleman. I think Long done ok though, busy throughout.
what is most pleasing is we have put the 2012 horror show behind us. I was watching other games in the competition and was thinking "oh god there's a lot of quality on display here, not sure if we have that in us. Will we make a show of ourselves again?" But on the contrary we put in a very impressive performance where we were bossing the game on the big stage and apart from a few shaky moments at the back we deserved the win and anyone watching on would be thinking 'Ireland should have won that'. So reason to be proud in my opinion even though there is that bit of frustration that we couldn't see it through until the end.

Sweden had not a single shot on Target for 90 minutes......................despite the citicism this is to be lauded as defence doing their job.
Unlucky for the goal.

We defended ok. But were shaky when they were running at us from out wide. So not neccasarily the defences fault that as it was more not enough cover on right side of midfield

Realistically this game could of finished 3-0 and the Swedes couldn't of complained about it. To put it this way, we had more chances in this game than Croatia did when they battered us 3-1 in 2012.

They missed an absolute sitter at 1-0. Blondie haired No 6 (I think) smashed the ball wide from 10 yards out when Randolph was on the deck. That 0 shots on target stat is misleading. They had chances, a couple of times they got good crosses in which just needed a touch. Zlatan hit one wide under pressure from Clark.

just in the door. what a trip. Paris was buzzing with green and yellow everywhere. disappointing not to get the 3 points but we'll move on with confidence high. the lads played their hearts out so no complaints although it was a shame we sat back after going 1 up. the scenes when we scored we unreal. few days back in work and then back out to bordeaux. a point would set us up nicely against Italy who will have hopefully won the group by then. ybig

Great showing but completely retreated after taking the lead. Sweden were bombarding us, especially from the left, surprised how long it took for us to address it. Looked brighter again after they levelled.

Great shift from all but probably out 2 best players, Coleman and Long, were a bit subdued. Not Whelans biggest fan but he gave everything, he was spent with five mins to go.

Maybe being a bit harsh but thought Clark could have had a swing at the cross with his foot instead of going with his head.

That was the only big negative for me. We spent the next 20 minutes on the backfoot after scoring and were living very dangerously at times.....we nearly invited the equaliser onto ourselves.

But there were many, many positives and who knows, we might even improve as the tournament goes on.

Not too disappointed with the point, it was more than I expected before the game, and we'll only know if it was a point won or not, at the end of the group phase. It is worth another 500k to the FAI.

However talk of 2 and 3 goal wins is away with the fairies. MON said it was not a "must win" game, and if we scored earlier, there would have been no change to how the game panned out. Caution would have taken over and so it did. However, the team played well and the equaliser was very unlucky, even if Clark had two previous attempts at scoring for them beforehand in one minute. But there are still plenty of positives to take from the game.

If we win against Belgium, we're guaranteed at least a third place spot and then we have to wait and see if its enough to get through, which it should be. Belgium are an average team with many English based players that our players should be able to cope with if we play like we did against Sweden. Winning the game though will depend more on level of ambition than ability.

Spot on
Had O'Shea or Hendrick scored in the first half we probably still would have gone in at 1-1 at the break

i haven't seen us play against a BIG team like we did in the first half, should have went in 1 up. Why are we so fragile after we score, we just retreat and look nervous.I would have took the draw before the game but feel we could have taken all 3 points.
So onto bordeaux and have a go at the belgians.
