If 3-4 don't qualify on their own then there will likely need to be some one off game to determine.

Won't be that straight forward with euros and nations league but I think some sort of system like that will happen.

And I was also thinking, why would England have to be the main qualifier? Ok most of the stadiums are in the England region but the English FA don't own them. It's the UK finances overall where the pot comes from. So if you were from Scotland, for example, you would be feeling hard done by if England get it and not you when it's the same tax payers money.
Plus I think England would fancy their chances and want to play competitively anyway in the lead up.

It was pretty annoying when we only got one stadium hosting as it was framed to us as we were very much the main support act to England and implied we’d have at least two stadiums hosting games. This was a big reason it would be worth it according to the FAI.

It will be X10 annoying if the automatic qualification places aren’t tailored to make it close to impossible for us not to be in it. It’s in UEFAs interest to have at least 4 if not all 5 countries there so a scenario that just sets up to gifting England the place isn’t practical.

The whole Irish part of the bid is massively flawed. Can’t see Casement being ready and most NI fans don’t seem to want it. If we’re involving the GAA then why not let Croker be the stadium used? Gives another 25k fans a chance to go to the games.

Seems pretty clear that’s the back up plan. In that scenario we’d have 2 stadiums and NI none…but the decision on auto qualifiers might already be known at that stage.

I can think of 3 massive shootouts the French have blown in recent times tbf

England will certainly qualify and I would fancy at least one of Scotland Wales and ourselves to qualify.

That means two places left between two of Ireland/Scotland/Wales and based on ranking.  Northern Ireland may get in if 3 qualify automatically.

Not bad really.  I would expect at max one of the five to miss out and possibly none.

Can also throw in the very real possibility of Northern Ireland being dropped as a host unless they get a pass on using Windsor because I cant see Casement being redeveloped any time soon.

Don't know what your man is on about. Would expect England to qualify and at least one of Wales and Scotland as well possibly both in which case happy days.. 4 years away a lot to happen between now and then. Could even be in position of qualyfing through the group oursleves

Has there been any clarification on who qualifies automatically? Assuming just England?

Two automatic qualification places available apparently. No detail yet as to how they're awarded. The best suggestion I've heard so far regarding their distribution is that all five teams could enter the qualification tournament and the two automatic places are then given to the two best placed teams of the five that don't qualify automatically.

So in that case if Ireland and England qualified automatically but the other three didn't the places would then go to whichever two of Scotland, Wales and the north performed best in the qualification groups.

They might take a different approach however.

If I'm understanding this correctly this is the proposal that was floated earlier in the year as per the quoted posts above from April. This seems the best approach, it's likely that England and at least one other team will qualify through the groups, that then leaves two places to give to the best two hosts that don't qualify. That way four out of five hosts would qualify. If three or more hosts qualify through the groups then all five will qualify.

The north will be listed as a host even if they don't host games, mainly just to keep the peace really. They'll maybe throw them a few training camps or pre tournament friendlies at Windsor or something like that to keep them quiet. They'll be too busy banging their drums at that time of year anyway to have time to be hosting games.

Don't think he actually understands the system he tweeted about. Seems to have an agenda that he's more interested in than anything else.

The more this has gone on, the less arsed I am with it.
I'd rather any money was invested in the LOI and grassroots.

As an aside, people saying that the bid wins by default but can't UEFA decide to still not approve it?
