The qualification groups are being made smaller going forward I think (groups of 4 and 5 teams) so the whole system is changing anyway. So it doesn't necessarily mean the loss of a NL playoff spot.

My understanding is original cost £77 million GAA to pay £15 million. IFA got £26 million for Windsor but are due £36 million for Irish League grounds. So both due £62 million with the GAA getting nothing so far and the IFA the £26 million. Casement now expected to cost north of £150 million and some expect it to be significantly more. The GAA are insisting they still pay just the £15 million. The concern would be that the extra costs would be considered 50% to the GAA and 50% due to the cost of staging the Euros. If that money is available to football it could be far better spent.

GAA would hardly be expected to put 75m into it would they?
The numbers also seem quite low, could see them spiraling higher. Liklihood is there are too many obstacles to get shovels in the ground by the deadline next year

Like I said, most likely scenario is Casement Park is delayed or doesn’t get built at all, leading to Northern Ireland being dropped from the bid.

The funding has been equal so far in being allocated. Indeed the IFA cannot draw down the £36 million until the GAA start taking their £62 million. The concern is as a way to give the GAA £80 million +++++ half of it would be seen as funding for the Euros. Now that makes no sense for football in NI which is sadly lacking in funding. If there is all that extra money available for sport then the football share could be far better spent leaving a lasting legacy. Casement would not be used or needed for NI internationals in the future. Windsor is generally big enough apart from certain major games. However by selling out at the moment the IFA can charge high ticket prices eg £366.50 for 3 x league C nations league and 5 qualifiers. That was a renewal price in March 22. Now if there was 5,000 - 10,000 extra seats at Windsor fans could pick and choose their games and revenue could be lower. In any case I don't think the PSNI would be too keen on 34K NI fans going to Casement on a regular basis. |

With Erdogan winning in Turkey, I guess that means that this bid is guaranteed to succeed.

Haven't they bid for a few tournaments & been passed over in recent years ? The Irish & UK bid is probably stronger

Euro 2020 being held across numerous European cities came about because Turkey were the only serious bidders and UEFA/Platini didn't want to give it to them so they came up with that they did under the guise of it celebrating 60 years of the Euros

What's the issue with Turkey hosting it?
It would be a great country for it, big stadiums, football mad public, not too expensive and a beach holiday if you wanted. |
|||
It would damage this forums' reputation

I dont know about that if thats the main reason. They have gone to Istanbul I think for 3 European finals since 2005 so they at least like that city. They supported Russia with their 2018 bid. They recently had the Euro U17s in Hungary. The biggest issue could be rather logistics. Super hot in Turkey in the summer, especially certain parts or it. You would also wonder if they have the corporate facilities that UEFA expect in the stadia and hotels outside of Istanbul. |

I think it's the rest of Turkey beyond Istanbul that's the issue. Istanbul itself is fine. But the infrastructure in some of the other cities probably isn't great. Also Gaziantep would be a host city and it's just a short spin up the road from Aleppo, which isn't ideal. Though I'm sure the Turks will be taking the opportunity to sell their bid to UEFA this weekend in Istanbul. And money talks in sport as we've already seen this week, so if they threw enough of it at UEFA they might just get it.

I think Turkey could host this if it was about football, but the politics is a totally different story. |

Turkey’s chances of hosting won’t be helped by the organisational and infrastructural sh*t show before and after the CL final.
I know Wembley has some transport and ticket scanning issues but it has proper facilities for disabled fans and you don’t need to walk over 2 hours on a motorway to reach it. Highly doubt the more provincial grounds would be any better in Turkey.

Looks like the Champions League final was not a great advert for Turkey 2028 in the end. Starting to see why UEFA preferred to play Euro 2020 across the whole continent rather than give it to the Turks. If this is what their main city is like for matches, you'd imagine the provincial cities would probably be a complete shambles. |
