I have been with 3 mobile for almost 5 years, over the last 2 years the standard of internet has fallen to a fermented level of cat faeces. Yes it works slightly better in some areas but its generally muck and appears to be getting worse. It also seems to be on a cycle, it shuts down briefly on a regular basis. Anyone else notice this? Or is there any alternative? Do all the phone companies use the same infrastructure?

Three have the fastest and most reliable network so I wouldn't go changing providers anyway.
The only mobile operators with their own infrastructure Three, Vodafone and Eir and everyone else just piggy backs off them I.e. Tesco, 48 etc. However, whilst having their own infrastructure, they can often be on the same site or mast so whilst the service should be much the same, the technology they use differs giving different levels of performance. Unless there is someone in your household with someone else getting a far better service, I'd stick with what you have.

Yes I figured changing provider would not fix anything , thats why I havent bothered so far, its just reaching a point where trying to watch a youtube video can be a real pain and I seem to spend more and more of my time online doing the buffering dance. Does anybody know why it consistently switches off and back on again?

I've been with three mobile since the days of East Digifone but changed this week.
Was paying Sky Broadband €55 per month Sim Only Three Mobile €30 Topping up my daughter's phone by €20 per month. Bundled up with Eir this week. Broadband €39 per month 2 X Sim Only contracts €9.99 each per month. He also gave me €50 credit to buy out the last two months of my sky contract even though I was out of contract.

I changed from Three to Vodafone about 3 years because of their internet coverage. Haven’t looked back, Vodafone far superior

I have a Vodafone work phone for the last 10 years, was with meteor (eir) before that until the network went bad. I also have a 3 phone that I use for non work stuff.
Vodafone is better in most places that I have been around the country. At matches and concerts with big crowds I can usually get Internet and calls on the Vodafone number but not always on the 3 number.
A friend of mine has eir and his phone is uncontactable at matches, my mother has eir and has to go upstairs in the house to be able to hear a call and that's in North Dublin. I was working up north a couple of years ago for a couple of weeks and I bought an O2 sim while I was there. It costs £5 sterling a month and I get free texts and calls to all Irish numbers and I am not supposed to have Internet on it but it works. Best of all it switches between the networks down here to the strongest signal so it is usually never out of coverage. For the equivalent of €60 per year its great. I am paying Vodafone €60 a month but that will be stopping as soon as I'm out of contact in a few months, I'll stick with them but opt for a sim only contract. Vodafone are the best but they are a rip off. Was looking for a sim only rolling contract a month or so ago. Lowest Vodafone would quote me was 30 or 35 a month. Cant remember. Switched from Tesco to Eir. Normally 30 a month but on 15 a month for 6 months and can cancel whenever I want. Tesco do 20 a month

Have had Gomo for 2 years. €9.99 pm and surprisingly no issues considering it's owned by Eir that's remarkable
