Only suffer from it if really worried about something or coming off a really hard session. Few beers usually does the trick for me, lives answer to everything

That night thinking about the big claim earlier in the day, fell asleep in 20 minutes. Sleep has been be good ever since. That was over 4 years ago.

An accupuncture can be used for loads of differnt things. So did you get one for insomnia?

No it was for something else but he took note of it matter of factly at the start that I had bad sleeping.

Anyway your insomnia sounds brutal. I'd try w**king a dogs lipstick if I thought it would cure really bad sleep . How can you let it go untreated for so long, crazy.

It's only bad in phases.
I could go the next 3 months sleeping well and then go a period of weeks without sleeping, well without getting good sleep.
I did go the doctor and he told me to give up alcholol, and I told him that I didn't like his attitude.

What McG said earlier in the thread is good . Stay away from sleepers as they are the slippery slope to dependency . Read a good article ages ago telling/explaining sufferers to practice relaxation techniques .
As in lying in bed and telling your legs then abdomin then arms and head to relax . You know you got it when you feel your legs almost heavy against the matress and this actually works . There is a part of each nights sleep called REM sleep and thats where your subconscious deals with all the crap you live with and kinda does the head repair work as you sleep if that makes sense - anyways you need this to keep things balanced so its important to get yourself sorted out soon as poss . Good luck.
Shamrock Rovers - lovin the buzz .

I didnt sleep at all last night. My body clock has been disturbed over the holidays due to the NFL season and Cricket.

I was in bed by 12 last night and was tired but felt under too much pressure to sleep because I had an exam this morning. I kept saying to myself, that I only have 5 hours sleep, then it turned to 4 hours ,3 hours, 2 and then I just gave up.

I went 24 hours without sleep on my way home from the exam and slept all day.

There is cricket to watch and study to do tonight as I am off tomorrow.

I often go a full night without sleeping. Its an absolute **** .I wouldn't mind but I have zero stress or anxiety to deal with and I don't need much sleep 7 hours is plenty.Usually know within a half hour of getting into bed if I will sleep properly or not.

I presume you've tried this but some things that help me get to sleep - completely shut off technology etc. when you get into bed, laptop off (would get tempted to go back to it if I couldn't get to sleep but not as much when it's off), phone on silent face down etc. I even have an alarm clock which you can set the time to not show until the morning alarm. I used to just turn it away but might still turn it around and check the time which would only make it worse... Also installed f.lux programme on the laptop (not sure if it's mentioned on here) - alters the colours of the screen as the sun sets and rises which makes it easier on the eyes. Get used to it after a week and only switch it off when watching a Tv show or movie. I reckon it helps when you might need to be using laptop just before you go to bed. Edit - I never had insomnia just trouble fully 'switching off' for sleep, understand the above won't be of use to many in this thread

Haven't had any issues with sleep in a good while now (touch wood), whenever I am up at this hour it's by choice (holidays at the moment Tongue).

Any of the other lads that try the acupuncture do let us know how it goes, would be interested in it as they seem to have treatments for a huge range of things

Same was still awake at 7 this morning. Have struggled with insomnia for the last 18 months or so but its particularly bad at the moment due to the xmas throwing the body clock all over the place.

Ive always been a desperate sleeper. Go to bed at 10 and awake at 12 or 2am and thats it fir the nighg.

Been going to the gym every morning since the new year. About 10 or 11 am. Finish up about 12.30 or 1. Come about 11pm or 12 am in d evening I'm out for the count and sleep right though until 9.20-9.55am. I've woke up at these times every day.

Exercise in the mornings lad's. You'll be f**ked in the evenings. Give it a try.

Didn't realise this was such a common problem. Never had a sleepless night apart from if I was on a session!
Just noticed all the advice about avoiding technology, I find watching telly knocks me out a lot quicker or listening to the radio. Would have either on every night
