Topic: Latest on the Eircom Logo Posted: 13 Nov 2007 at 5:17am |
Still no reply from FAI regarding if we can get logo-less replica shirts in the future so I mailed Umbro and they have been on to them as a result and the rep said that the FAI will reply to me. I'll keep at the cnuts.

All goes back to 1986 when a broke FAI allowed Opel insert a clause in the very first shirt sponsorship deal to have their logo on all replicas. When eircom took over in 2000 they insisted on the same clause. It's never going to change as any potential new sponsor will want the same branding or the cash options drop considerably making the deal less favouralbe to the fai.

Some of the new polo shirts only have a tiny eircom logo beneath the umbro sign. Like the one Pat Fenlon was wearing. Maybe they are going to minimalise i?

The sequence now is, should he miss this, and Ireland's next penalty is scored, then the match and the progress are Ireland's....Timofte against Bonner..

If even smaller FAs can afford to not commercialise national symbols then why can't we? IFA and FAW are the two I'm thinking to closest to home!
