Very pleased for the big Dub being part of S****horpes side who after last nights play off win over MK Dons will play Millwall in the play offs final. Clap

Cliffy is captain and right back for Scunny these days and scored a dramatic 88th minute goal v Tranmere which sent his team into the play off semis.

Came through the Sunderland Academy team as a centre half. I saw him have many a fine game for the Youths and reserves @ Sunderland but unfortunately he never made the breakthrough into the senior team.

Hope S****horpe get through.

Remember Niall Quinn spoke very highly of him in his bio. Seems to have carved out a decent career despite the high expectations.

Another one with huge promise that got away. Can be spotted in a pub in Sunderland city pub before most Sunderland home games.

Always remember that Cliff Byrne Tommy Butler Niall Quinn Michael Reddy Kevin Kilbane Mark Rossister etc and even Scot Kevin Kyle used to play Gaelic football against the Sunderland University students on a Sunday afternoon in Sunderland till a furious Peter Reid found out. Big%20smile

Tommy Butler what an enigma! Quietly plugging away at Swansea though.

He was excellent on his Ireland debut.

Another one that under achieved was Ritchie Ryan from Tipp. We had lots of Irish players @ Sunderland long before Keano arrived.

His last club such a waste. I always remember his frightening pace @ Sunderland. Michaels one and only goal was v M/borough away when he reacted so quickly to Kevin Phillips peno being saved.

Never the same after his injury.

I remember he was always in amongst the goals at Grimsby but to be playing in the Falklands.....

What were his injury problems Wearside and would he not of got a move to the LoI?

Always a good player in Champ Manager Thumbs%20Up

EDIT - According to Wiki:

Retirement

After an unsuccessful third hip operation Michael accepted defeat and was forced to retire from professional football due to his hip problems, he is currently in the process of completing his Uefa B coaching license with the English FA.

Yes hip problems, his pace went. Don't know if he tried the Eircom. I had heard that he is working and living in Sunderland and loves Wearside hence his visits to the SOL as a fan.

I knew a Grimbsy fan @ work who really rated Michael.
