The price of hotel rooms is scandalous.  I've no sympathy for the hospitality industry.  Greedy fookers.

years ago plenty from the north would have headed down to Dublin for the weekend  - not anymore hotel prices are a joke  - we are down for the Greek and Dutch game utilising some free points a hotel chain otherwise they were looking 200 quid a night

Genuinely have no idea who is paying those prices - it cant all be yanks

TBf prices have risen elsewhere  - Liverpool has gotten a good bit more expensive lately  but Dublins starting point was already high

There is a cost of living thread already.  Feic off with your miserable outlook.

Got sorted for 140 for the France match. Still availability around that. To be fair got four nights in Athens over a weekend for about 100 more.

Belfast has the best mix I think, both in terms of the cost of everything and the amount and variety of things to do.

If you've got a couple of nights for a break you're better off Ryanairing it to Krakow or somewhere like that than going to any of the cities in the Republic. Nicer, cheaper, probably better weather and you'll have saved more money than the cost of the flights by not having to spend rip off Irish prices on everything while you're away.

Oh Baldrick the pedant how could you

Even the Department of the Environment, which is responsible for all local authorities in the country, said that for administrative purposes there are just five cities in the country, as laid out in the Local Government Act of 2001.

These Cities are; Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.

I've never been too attracted to our cities for breaks really, prefer the smaller towns where you can generally get better value. If you've a car they're great bases to explore regions. Westport, Kenmare, Kinsale are 3 that come to mind. Kindle probably my favourite. Stroll out to the Bullman for a few afternoon pints, back to town and fishy fishy for dinner. My perfect day

Kinsale is a fine town. Was there during the 9e a meal covid nonsense. Wasted some amount of grub on a pub crawl

Should have had Waterford instead of Sligo.  Mea Culpa.  Blame the hangover.  Limerick has improved hugely in last few years.

Maybe on paper. Im not sure tbh. Locals wouldn't look at it as a city, more a big town.

Sligo's big attraction isint the town itself. There has been a big push lately to show Sligo county as the Adventure capital of Ireland. And to be fair if you are interested is being outdoors, well you wont be disappointed.
Amazing scenery. Surfing is top class. Deep sea fishing. Great hiking trails. Lake fishing. New mountain bike trail centre across the Ox mountains. Boating up the lakes. Stand up paddle board on lakes and sea. Kayaking.  Rockclimbing. Horse riding. Birds of prey centre. Shooting. Loads of beaches. Freediving. Loads of historical cairns and monuments to explore. Scubadiving. Seaweed baths. Kitesurfing.

All within a hour drive of Sligo Town. It really is a hidden gem. And of course the highlight ... a trip to the Showgrounds to see a Sligo Rovers match. Big smile
