Any idea who Bonyrigg Rose are? promote to Scotish league 2 last season and are favorites to win that league this year. Are they a reincarnation of some other team or have some sugardaddy backing them?

Bonnyrigg Rose are an old club, founded 1881 in what was then a town in the heart of the Lothian coalfields. They played in the East of Scotland junior leagues for decades until junior football was abolished a few years ago as part of major league reconstruction.

This is a good interview with the current owners (one of whom is a former miner) from just a couple of weeks ago - https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rise-of-bonnyrigg-rose-why-club-is-surprised-at-favourites-tag-the-journey-from-ground-zero-mining-and-facing-hibs-3770940

A lot of these former junior clubs are better supported and run than many established third and fourth tier sides so I'm not surprised to see Bonnyrigg, Kelty and Cove doing well. I hope to see Clydebank (2002 incarnation) back in the senior leagues one day.

Are there still Junior internationals between Ireland and Scotland? They were a popular alternating fixture back in the 80s and 90s. Bonnyrigg Rose was always well represented in the Scottish squad. It wasn't unusual for more officials than players to travel. A good social weekend was ensured - but while it fell into the blatant junket category, in most cases it was a well deserved trip for those who worked unpaid and tirelessly to keep the junior leagues rolling.

NI played Junior Internationals against Scotland 85 times between 1890 and 1994. Also played Wales 6 times (1925 to 1930), then a North Wales Coast FA team in 1990 and 1991.

We also played ROI a number of times, but these matches were considered as "representative" rather than "international".

Meanwhile, such games were superceded by the Quadrangulat Tournament between Scotland, NI, ROI and Isle of Man(!), held on 14 occasions between 1994 and 2017:

Thanks are mutual, since I only knew a tiny bit about these games, until your question piqued my interest to look into it further.

In the context of Scotland and NI, the term "Junior" was not age-related, but meant adult football which was below Senior, and subsequently Intermediate, level. As such, the players were all Amateur.

And in 1989, UEFA introduced the biennial UEFA Regions Cup which has similarities, in that players are required to be amateur:

As it happens, ROI, via it's Eastern Division team, has a proud history in the event (see above), though you doubtless knew that.

Half-time break is five minutes shorter than everywhere else. That's why Scottish results always came in first in teleprinter while you were checking your pools coupon or football bet, thus very often depriving you of a good oul sweat.
