Did any country have such a dramatic decline like Hungary?

Before Italia 90, they had qualified for nine World Cups from eleven attempts. Losing out to us was the start of a thirty year decline.

Scotland 6/7 from the 1974 to 1998 - they only missed out on 94.
Made all the world cups in the 50’s too.

Hungary and Austria are major under achievers.

Hungary and Austria are major under achievers. 

Austria look pretty decent at the moment, I'd fancy them to do OK in the Euros

Hardly. The marvellous Magyars had been in steady decline down the world rankings since the 50s and 60s when they were a top 4 world power.
Might be on the way back now with a far right despot running things, the east Europeans tend to do better when ruled by a tyrant of one hue or another.
Maybe if Leo became our gay black hitler wed start scoring goals again.
