Not a done deal yet, Milan have the 2026 Winter Olympics and the Mayor says the stadium will stay open until then.

Probably because the council are the ones who own the stadium. Inter and AC are planning to build a new one next door, presumably one they will own outright, rather than having to rent from the council. I can only presume that means the clubs will control the revenue better, and put in more premium facilities to make more money.

Whether the original stadium is knocked down or not will be of little concern to them, aside from the lack of space for car parking. It could well end up being kept as a rusting hulk for a few years after the new one opens, until after the Olympics, then being knocked at that stage, unless of course the council reach a deal to allow the new stadium be used for the Olympics and the IOC are cool with that.

PM has said it! Milan is not great at all. It’s a 1 hour city. See the Duomo, have lunch on the rooftop next to it, go see the sculpture of the finger flipping everybody off, and then start going to Como , or Bergamo. I always feel Milan’s reputation has been enhanced by the frequency of flights in and out.

By the time the new one is built the 2026 Winter Olympics  will probably be over.
6/7 years isnt that long of a time to plan, design and buid a new stadium.

Would make more sense to use the new stadium if IOC were happy with that and it was ready in time.

Was there twice (both stadium tours) and although it was fairly run down/dull I loved it. Will try get over for a game before it’s demolished.

Same thing. Messing with the Mona Lisa.  You might as well demolish the Colosseum because of its lack of corporate hospitality

"Perfection"?

They said the same about the old Wembley. You knowm Twin Towers and all that.

Still, at least the Italians have never messed with this place, which is as good as it ever was!

The old Wembley was miles better than the new Wembley which is a corporate empty soulless bowl. Wembley had iconic architecture and character and its demolishment is a contributing reason the FA Cup is now worthless.

I've been to both the old Wembley and the new one loads of times, for all sorts of games, inc FA Cup Finals.

And while the old place had its charms, if you took your sepia glasses off and looked beyond the mythology etc, it is undeniable that it was becoming increasingly unfit for purpose as each year passed.

Which is not to say that the new place is better in every respect, but what it has lost in some ways, it has undoubtedly gained in others.

As for the FA Cup becoming "worthless", I could think of a dozen reasons which are much more pertinent off the top of my head.

Still, you know what they say, "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be..."
