I think the one on Pique, as soft as it would have been, was more consistent with other video decisions.
Akinfeev was a joke though.

Thought at the time and on the replays that it wasn’t a penalty
They were both at it, wasn’t clear cut

Irish Fan “Tiki Taka football is nonsense” Pedro “We did win a World Cup with it” Irish Fan “yeah, okay but besides the World Cup, what else has Tiki Taka football given you “ Pedro “Two European championships” Irish Fan “okay, that’s fair enough. But besides the World Cup and two European championships, what actually has Tiki Taka done for Spanish football? Pedro walks away slowly shaking his head.

MON has been proved right. Tika Taka has no place in the game. Radioactice Man tactics to remain in place for all eternity. "Up and atom!"

I find Tiki Taka boring. Always have done. Fair enough it had the success a few years ago but even then I found it boring. There is nothing exciting about watching two centre backs repeatedly pass the ball to each other with no end result. |

What Spain played yesterday was nothing like Tiki-Taka. That was a style of play where the ball was moved, or ticked, quickly to constantly probe for space and was, above all, effective. Yesterday was negative football. Spain were every bit as negative as Russia.

Exactly. Tiki taka, at its peak, had Pedro, Villa and Torres on the shoulder of the last defender, or at the very least movement and one-twos from technically gifted forwards. It wasn't just a heap of tricky midfielders and a striker who it appeared the rest of the team didn't trust. It also had balls played to the feet of centre forwards, with the midfielders confident that the centre forwards had the required level of technical ability to hold the ball and pass it back. The midfielders, like Iniesta, were capable of actually moving forward, playing quick one twos, and looking for space, confident that Xavi and Busquets behind were capable of controlling the game with and without the ball. What it didn't have was ten players in a line across the pitch, knocking it five yards to each other, with the furthest forward player on the sideline, fifteen yards from the goal line, and the deepest outfielder thirty five yards from the goal line outside the centre of the area, all knocking it sideways, sideways, sideways. It was a brutal spectacle.
