Strange one, he never seemed to miss many games with the issue. Obviously it's much more serious than it appeared.

Would agree with that. Usually, retirement in such cases would come from longstanding injury. Must be a case of him nipping it in the bud early before it becomes a chronic problem. Best of luck to him.
